4414BRLibrarianAga Khan Education ServicesThe positionThe Aga Khan Education Service, Kenya (AKES, Kenya) operates 5 schools in various cities in Kenya and provides nursery to senior secondary education in both national and international curricula. It is part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a group of private development agencies working to improve living conditions and opportunities for people of all faiths and origins in specific regions of the developing world. We are seeking to fill the below post within our establishment. The position holder will be based at our Aga Khan High School Mombasa. Position: LibrarianRole Summary.

Facilitate orderly students and Teachers’ access to books and other learning materials kept at the Library to support learning programs. Key ResponsibilitiesBe in a position to develop programs to meet the needs, abilities and interests of learners using a range of instructional techniques and media. Manage the library on a day to day basisProvide schedules, reviewed occasionally, for library use, including evening or holiday sessions when considered necessaryDevelop plans and strategies for the library’s growth and improved service. Maintain orderliness and control at all times the library is in use.

Reviewing procedures as required in consideration of the security of the library resources. Carry out annual stock takeGather and disseminate to Departmental Heads, publisher’s information useful to decide future purchases and arrange displays. Visit local bookshops and exhibitions to assess purchase of new or second-hand books. Provide guidelines to newly admitted students on the proper appreciation of library resources. Develop computerized processes for library management.

Attend workshops when available in Library Science, as agreed with the Head TeacherAssisting library users in utilizing the library’s E-books, Audio books and Audio-VisualsEnsuring that library books are in proper condition and are replaced in case of loss or damage. Working with publishers and vendors to ensure the library has an up to date catalogue of books. Help prepare the library’s budget and manage payments of fines for damages or lossThe requirementsQualifications And ExperienceBachelor’s Degree in (Library and Information Science/Library Science/Records Management). A minimum of 2-year experience in a busy library.

Experience in a school setup will be an added advantage. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Must be computer savvy and familiar with Google-suite platformsMust have the knowledge to work with databases and Integrated Library Systems.
