Job Description

Job SummaryThe Worship Pastor is responsible for overseeing and leading the worship ministry of the church in a way that aligns with the mission, doctrine, and values of Underwood Baptist Church. This individual will plan and lead Christ-centered, biblically grounded worship experiences that engage the congregation and support the preaching of God’s Word. The Worship Pastor will also shepherd and develop volunteer teams, lead with humility and excellence, and help foster a culture of passionate, participatory worship.

Key ResponsibilitiesWorship Leadership Plan, lead, and oversee weekly worship services (Sunday morning, Sunday night, and other special services) Collaborate with the Senior Pastor to ensure that worship aligns with sermon themes and church vision Select biblically sound and theologically accurate music that facilitates generational worship within the congregation Lead rehearsals with vocalists and instrumentalists to prepare for worship services Grow and develop the choir for worship on Sunday morning services and special events / gatheringsTeam Development Recruit, train, and disciple members of the worship and tech teams Provide spiritual leadership to the team through prayer, mentoring, and example Develop a culture of excellence, humility, and unity among volunteersMedia & Technology Assist the Media & Creative Arts Director when needed with audio/visual needs of the church as it pertains to Sunday services, including sound, projection, livestream, and lighting Work with tech volunteers to ensure a high-quality in-person and online worship experience Manage worship planning software (e.

g.

, Planning Center) and coordinate service flowPastoral and Administrative Duties Participate as a member of the pastoral staff, supporting the broader mission of the church Assist in pastoral care, hospital visits, and other church ministry activities as needed Manage worship ministry budget and maintain instruments, equipment, and softwareQualificationsSpiritual & Theological A growing, vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ Agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 Ordained (or ordainable) Southern Baptist minister is preferred Models a life of integrity, humility, and ChristlikenessEducation & Experience Bachelor’s degree in music, worship, theology, or a related field (preferred but not required) Minimum 3 years of experience leading worship in a church context, preferably SBC Proficient in vocals and at least one instrument (guitar or piano preferred) Strong understanding of both traditional hymns and modern worship musicLeadership & Skills A heart for shepherding people, not just producing services Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills Ability to lead teams and delegate responsibility Tech-savvy, with familiarity in audio/video equipment and worship software
