DescriptionAMDA College of the Performing Arts, with campuses in New York City and Hollywood, is one of the foremost post-secondary performing arts colleges in the country. AMDA offers various pathways for students to receive unparalleled performing arts education taught by world-class industry professionals, including Professional Conservatory Certificates as well as undergraduate and graduate degrees (Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Associate of Occupational Studies, Master of Fine Arts and Master of Arts). AMDA is seeking passionate, student-centered, and highly qualified part-time adjunct instructors to teach undergraduate English courses for our Los Angeles Campus.
These courses will be delivered In-Person on the Los Angeles campus. Teaching assignment(s) may include courses within the discipline of English, such as college-level composition, creative writing, critical thinking, literature, etc. Faculty members at AMDA are responsible for providing highly effective instruction through well-prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear documentation of student progress, and support of academic success for all students.
Primary ResponsibilitiesProviding instruction in accordance with established curricula, course outlines, and class schedulesCreating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinkingProviding a learning vehicle for diversity and inclusion contentEvaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and assessing student workMaintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethicsMaintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areasFulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time adjunct faculty memberMaintaining accurate academic recordsPerforming other related duties as assignedQualificationsTerminal degree in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition Extensive experience in higher education, plus a Master's degree in English, literature, comparative literature, or compositionA minimum of three years of teaching English/Literature/Comparative Literature or Composition in a post-secondary settingExperience with innovative teaching methodologies that focus on creating an engaging, student-centered learning environmentSuccessful candidates will be able to apply their discipline expertise in a manner/context that is relevant to emerging performing artists.
Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and practices that enhance student success at higher education institutions, including effective use of technologyCurrency and depth of knowledge in the applicable professional fieldExcellent oral/written communication skills and interpersonal skillsCommitment to academic excellence, exceptional service and providing a dynamic climate for life-long learningActive scholarship in related fieldPosition InformationThe pay range for this position is $45. 00/hour - $60. 00/hour. For administrative and tasks assigned or approved outside of classroom teaching hours will be paid at a standard hourly rate of $35.
