Job DescriptionOpportunity at a GlanceThe American University of the Caribbean (AUC) School of Medicine invites applications for full time Faculty - Physiology on its Medical Sciences Campus. Medical education is the primary focus of our Medical Sciences Faculty, although research opportunities exist.

We seek a faculty member with expertise in physiology and experience with students transitioning to medical school. This position will serve a dual role of supporting delivery of the MedOrigin course, a 10-credit course designed to provide incoming medical students with curated foundational knowledge, practical skills, and strategies necessary for success in medical school prior to the start of their first semester, and Physiology in the standard MD Program curriculum, particularly with remediation support as needed.

The successful candidate will provide strong teaching in Human Physiology, including providing insights into, and understanding of the physiological basis of common diseases in humans, and the current diagnostic approaches used in medical practice. Teaching medical knowledge and clinical skills focuses on active learning methods and small group activities. The successful applicant should have excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to working closely with medical students to help them acquire the required medical knowledge and to develop clinical competency. Essential Duties And Responsibilities IncludeKnowledge of the applied human physiology that underlines the basis of disease.

Preparation of course materials relevant to physiology and pathophysiology of disease and integration of student and peer feedback to enhance the learning experience.

Deliver effective didactic and active learning sessionsFacilitate small group learning opportunities targeting remedial content instructionWork one on one with our highly motivated students and guide individual remediation plans for those at-risk of not meeting academic performance requirementsAdvise individuals or groups of students in academic matters and exercise professional judgment in referring students for appropriate non-academic supportWork closely with our Academy for Teaching and Learning to deliver remediation support aligned with curricular objectives and assessments for improved student learningWrite and review NBME-style questions for practice and assessmentsPrepare and evaluate examinations to assess student accomplishmentsActively engage in professional development activity to stay abreast of changes in their field.

Serving on AUC committees as appointed or elected and actively participate in university activities. Serves as a positive professional role model for students, assisting in their professional/social development. Take on academic activity considered to facilitate student success by the department Chair or Dean of campus.
