About This RoleThe Maintenance Supervisor will lead a team responsible for mechanical maintenance across both dry and wet plant operations, including crushing, milling, and related equipment. This role ensures that all facilities, equipment, and machinery are maintained, repaired, and operated safely and efficiently. The role will also oversee daily operations, conduct inspections, manage scheduling and budgeting, and ensure compliance with safety standards. Key ResponsibilitiesEnsure full compliance with all relevant safety, mining, and statutory codes and regulations at the workplace. Adhere to site safety and environmental policies at all times.
Perform maintenance activities in accordance with Health & Safety standards, including isolation, lockout/tagout procedures, and environmental and quality protocols. Assist in the development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Accurately close work orders daily using the maintenance database system, including entering comments, recording labor hours, and completing all required fields. Conduct maintenance work on the crushing plant, ensuring all components are operational and ready for use. Verify that the jaw crusher is correctly set and ready for operation. Ensure the secondary cone crusher, screening plant, and tertiary crushers are in good working condition and ready to run.
Supervise and participate in the execution of equipment maintenance plans within the process plant. Ensure the availability of spare parts, materials, and tools required for maintenance tasks. Oversee welding and fabrication work related to the crushing circuit. Supervise the complete replacement of crusher liners. Develop tools, methods, and materials to minimize equipment downtime. Monitor and report on component wear and tear. Provide technical and supervisory support to team members to enhance productivity, efficiency, and cost optimization. Continuously review plant design and equipment performance, reporting deficiencies and recommending improvements to the Superintendent, Crushing & Conveying.
Enforce housekeeping standards across all areas of responsibility. Ensure adequate shift coverage and manning requirements are met. Lead and manage a team responsible for maintaining secondary crushers. Participate in recruitment, training, and development to attract and retain top talent. Manage team performance through goal setting, reviews, feedback, and coaching aligned with business and production objectives. Identify training opportunities to build team capability and versatility. Maintain effective communication with peer supervisors and process department personnel to ensure equipment is operated and maintained according to SOPs and industry best practices. Evaluate plant performance and initiate improvement opportunities.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and manage small-scale improvement projects. Foster and maintain positive working relationships within the team. Contribute ideas for continuous improvement and assist in the development of job procedures as required. Education, Work Experience & Key CompetenciesDegree in Mechanical Engineering and/or related Trade Certificate. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a maintenance role, including at least two years in a supervisory capacity. Possess a valid Driver’s License with good defensive driving skills and ability. Minimum of five (5) years’ working experience in a mining industryStrong leadership, motivational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proven analytical skills to identify operational inefficiencies and recommend improvements to maximize plant performance. In-depth understanding of maintenance process improvement and control strategies. Solid knowledge of technical, production, and maintenance practices for large-scale, continuously operating mineral processing plants. Proficiency in JD Edwards or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. Skilled in general conveyor drive maintenance, belt splicing, rubber lining, and lagging. On-site experience in plant maintenance operations. Strong problem-solving abilities with a track record of resolving complex technical issues. Detail-oriented and results-driven, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
Experience managing critical parts inventory based on usage trends and maintenance activity requirements.
