Hospitality AssistantPosition DescriptionOverviewOne World Surgery (OWS) is a nonprofit organization with a mission to ignite the spirit of service and transform lives by providing access to high-quality surgical care globally. Our three cornerstone programs include operating global surgery centers, leading medical missions and offering education and training support to local medical professionals. One World Surgery funds and operates the Primary Care and Surgery Center in the Dominican Republic in 28,500 square meters, located one hour and 20 minutes in the east side of Santo Domingo. The One World Surgery Center is a permanent facility with a Dominican team that provides orthopedic consults and surgeries year-round. The center also hosts weeklong medical mission trips during which teams of volunteers (generally from the U.S.) perform consults and surgeries in additional specialties. OWSC hosts an average of 2 medical mission teams each month, with up to 60 volunteers per team.The OWS Visitors Center, is a conference center located on the property of the OWS Surgical Center, provides accommodations for the medical mission teams. It also hosts our education and training programming. The conference center includes 23 guest rooms, industrial and guest kitchens, a conference room, and laundry facilities. The Hospitality Manager is responsible for overseeing all conference center facilities and operations, hourly staff, and full-time volunteers.The Hospitality Assistant is a member of One World Surgery’s hospitality team and serves as the main hospitality contact for staff and visitors during shifts at the OWS Visitor’s Center. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring an impactful experience for all visitors by creating a warm, inviting, and safe atmosphere in the OWS Visitors Center.Schedule: This is a full-time position. During weeks when visitors are present (average of 2 weeks per month), the Hospitality Assistant will work Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and stay overnight in the OWS Visitors Center. During weeks when visitors are not present, the Hospitality Assistant will work Monday through Friday standard hoursKey ResponsibilitiesHospitalityCreate a warm and welcoming environment in the DR Visitors Center, ensuring a positive and impactful experience for all visitorsRoom Assignment on every MissionMenu coordination and purchase listReport any incident with volunteers or staff to the Hospitality Manager.Conduct tours of the Primary Care, Surgical and Visitors center onboard volunteers to amenities and policiesConduct General Orientation PresentationRespond to questions and requests from visitors, and remind visitors of DR Visitors Center policiesUpdate volunteers and visitors regarding the schedule and any other important information via verbal and written announcementsEngage with visitors throughout their stay to enhance their experience and deepen their relationship to OWSGreet volunteers at the airport and oversee volunteer departureConduct tours of the NPH propertyLead hospitality and surgery center orientationsServe as the point of contact for the hospitality team and resolve any hospitality-related issues during shifts including speaker cancellations, transportation issues, room assignments, staff overnight accommodation, schedule changes, etc.Address any overnight maintenance issues or emergenciesOpen Gift Shop and process payments. Keep Inventory updated.Program OperationsLead medical mission dinners and evening programming including dinner set-up and clean-up, speaker introductions, announcements, and general volunteer sign upsCollaborate with Hospitality Coordinator to implement ongoing improvements to evening programming. Cross-trained in Hospitality Coordinator role to be able to provide coverage, as neededPurchasing and Inventory ManagementAssist Hospitality Manager with purchasing activities including inventory management and shopping.Oversee management of non-medical in-kind donations for OWS and NPH including collecting, logging, and turning in donations.Required Qualities, Skills, and Experience Passionate about the missions of One World Surgery and NPHAbility to stay overnight in the Visitors Center during medical missionsFull professional fluency in English and Spanish (oral and written)Previous experiencing interacting with North Americans or native English speakers (in a medical mission setting preferred)Friendly, welcoming, charismatic, positive, high-energy personalityStrong public speaking and presentation skillsAbility to work collaboratively in a team and to form strong relationships with co-workers and visitorsAbility to manage stressful situations well, be flexible, and creatively solve problemsComfortable communication by email, WhatsApp, and video call and using Microsoft Word and ExcelPreferred Qualities, Skills, and Experience University degree in relevant field (i.e. hospitality, tourism, English)To apply, here.
