Assistant Accountant Location: Plymouth – with travel to schools in the local area Salary: Up to £30,000 p.a. Contract Type: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract, 37 hours per week Start Date: 5th January 2026 At Delt Shared Services, our Finance team supports a range of valued clients across the Southwest, providing expertise that drives growth, improves decision-making, and creates real impact. We’re now looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our friendly and high-performing Finance team. You’ll play a key role in supporting one of our major clients, Transforming Futures Multi Academy Trust, working closely with the Finance Business Partner to provide accurate, insightful financial support. Please note, this is a 12-month fixed term contract with a proposed start date of 5th January 2026. What you’ll be doing:Supporting the production of monthly management accounts, including accruals, variance analysis and KPI reportingPreparing cashflow forecasts and supporting budget setting and forecasting processesManaging control accounts, reconciliations, journals and adjustmentsHandling sales invoicing, receipting, credit control and payment runsMaintaining the fixed asset register and supporting VAT and audit processesProviding administrative support around pupil funding contracts and purchasingCollaborating virtually via Microsoft Teams and SharePoint as part of a remote-friendly, supportive teamThis is a hybrid role, with occasional travel to schools or sites for finance-related meetings. As some of the meetings can be called on short notice, you will need to be located within a reasonable commutable distance to Plymouth. What you’ll bring:AAT Level 3 or 4 qualification (or working towards it)At least two years’ relevant finance experienceStrong Excel skills and confidence in analysing and interpreting dataGreat organisational skills and the ability to balance multiple prioritiesExcellent communication skills - you’ll be comfortable dealing with colleagues and customers alikeExperience with IRIS Financials, IRIS Financial Planner, or Arbor MIS would be helpful, but full system training will be provided.
