Role Summary The Assistant Quantity Surveyor supports the Quantity Surveying and Project Management team in delivering accurate cost estimates, managing budgets, preparing tender documentation, and conducting site measurements. This role contributes to effective cost control, contract administration, and financial reporting throughout the project lifecycle.Key Success Drivers including Accountabilities and Responsibilities1. Cost Estimation and Budgeting • Assist in developing cost estimates across project stages (pre-tender to post-tender). • Collect and analyze data for accurate budgeting. • Support cost planning and feasibility studies. 2. Tendering and Procurement • Help in preparing tender documentation, including BOQs and specifications. • Assist in reviewing contractor and supplier quotes. • Participate in procurement by issuing enquiries and evaluating tenders. 3. Contract Administration • Support the administration of construction contracts. • Assist in preparing interim payment applications. • Maintain records such as variation logs and change control documentation. 4. Cost Control and Reporting • Monitor expenditures versus approved budgets. • Assist in preparing internal and client financial reports. • Contribute to identifying cost risks and opportunities for value engineering. 5. Site Visits and Measurements • Conduct site visits for measurements and verification. • Support preparation of valuations and progress claims. • Ensure accurate site activity documentation. Functional/Technical Competencies • Proficiency in quantity take-off and cost estimation tools. • Understanding of standard contracts (e.g., FIDIC, JCT, NEC). • Basic knowledge of procurement and tendering processes. • Familiarity with construction cost planning and reporting. • Accuracy in documentation and data management. • Working knowledge of MS Excel and QS software (e.g., CostX, Candy). • Attention to Detail: Precision in estimates, documents, and measurements. • Effective Communication: Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders clearly and diplomatically. • Time Management: Handle multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines efficiently. • Commercial Awareness: Stay updated with market trends and pricing structures. • Proactive Problem-Solving: Address cost discrepancies and adapt to project changes constructively. Educational Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
