At Notre Dame, your work matters, and so do you!The Assistant Rector serves in the University of Notre Dame Rome Living Learning Community, living side by side with students at the Villa. This position reports to the Rector, assists with the general administration of residential life, supports initiatives at ND Rome, and works to ensure a healthy, safe, and vibrant learning community.The exact responsibilities of the Assistant Rector will vary; however, each Assistant Rector is called to be a professional, minister, educator, and administrator.ProfessionalAs a representative of the University, the Assistant Rector is required to:Participate in professional development and hall staff trainingsShare in duty rotation with residential staff, communicating any planned travels outside of Rome to the Rector in advance to ensure coverageParticipate in the on-call rotation while programs are in session, including during breaks and national holidaysAttend weekly Villa staff meetings, one-on-one supervisory meetings, and ND Rome staff meetings as requiredCollaborate with ND Rome staff and the broader community in carrying out activities and routine operations as neededIntervene in emergencies to support students, following institutional policies and procedures established during trainingMinisterThe Assistant Rector serves as a role model and supports the spiritual well-being of residents by:Being a visible and approachable presence outside of duty hours to build relationships and foster community among residents and non-residents (for example, students living outside of the Villa)Assisting in the coordination of liturgies, prayer services, and programs designed to enhance spiritual lifeEducatorLearning extends beyond the classroom, and Assistant Rectors support that process by:Facilitating the successful integration of each student into Italian culture and life in RomeAddressing disruptive behavior and enforcing all University policies as outlined in the duLac student handbook, as well as policies specific to the Residential Living Learning CommunityImplementing community-oriented events and activities in collaboration with fellow Rectors and ND Rome staff, such as sports, cultural, or spiritual activitiesAdministratorThe Assistant Rector contributes to operations and administrative needs by:Assisting in the planning and execution of new student onboarding and Welcome Week activitiesHelping coordinate and implement the weekly meal planSubmitting work orders for repairs and maintenance to the Rome Facility ManagerDocumenting incidents such as disruptive behavior promptly and in accordance with established policiesAssisting with housing processes, including check-in, check-out, and room selectionSelect BenefitsSingle occupancy accommodationThree dinners per week while classes are in session (if applicable)University-provided cell phone and data planFree access to laundry facilitiesWi-Fi connectionIn order to be considered for this position, please submit your resume and cover letter with your application.Minimum QualificationsAt least one year of previous experience in a related field such as pastoral ministry, education, student personnel, or counselingNative or near-native English proficiency; working knowledge of ItalianExperience living in RomeAbility to legally work and live in Italy at the time of applicationBachelor’s degreePreferred QualificationsUnderstanding of the structure, mission, and values of institutions of Catholic higher educationDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively in higher education with faculty, staff, and studentsKnowledge of student life issuesEffective interpersonal skills, including a willingness to create a welcoming environment for all peopleAbility to design and implement educational programming with and for studentsCapacity to manage stress and maintain personal and emotional stability in a demanding work environmentStrong communication skills, both written and oral, with a facility for public speakingStrong organizational skills with demonstrated attention to detailProficiency with technology (Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel, and Gmail Suite) and the ability to learn new systemsAnnual Salary: 12.200€Schedule/Days of Week/Hours: This is a part-time (20 hours per week), 6-month position with the possibilityfor extension.
