QPS provides places of detention across the state for persons in police custody who have been denied bail, or who may be awaiting their first or subsequent appearance in court, or prisoners who are remanded or sentenced until they are transferred to either a youth detention or correctional facility.Refer to role description for more information.QPS provides places of detention across the state for persons in police custody who have been denied bail, or who may be awaiting their first or subsequent appearance in court, or prisoners who are remanded or sentenced until they are transferred to either a youth detention or correctional facility.Mount Isa Watchhouse works in partnership with various QPS, government and nongovernment agencies to ensure the safety, health and welfare of all prisoners as well as facilitate the movements of prisoners throughout the State, including receiving prisoners from remote locations within the gulf. You will assist in the processing and managing of prisoners with a cultural focus as all divisions within Mount Isa District contain significant First Nations populations.Note: This role involves 24-hour rotational shift work. Afternoon, night and weekend shifts as well as public holidays attract shift penalties additional to the base wage.Your Key AccountabilitiesThe core capability requirements for this role are: Perform Watchhouse functions relevant to the administration, supervision and monitoring of persons in custody and visitors to the Watchhouse. Prepare and maintain prisoner files and records. Operate and monitor electronic surveillance and movement control systems in accordance with established procedures. Maintain Watchhouse records in line with Queensland Police Service (QPS) policy and procedure. Assist in the processing of persons received into custody in line with QPS policy and procedures. Supervise and provide for the welfare, comfort and security of prisoners. Prepare and maintain records of prisoner's health requirements; monitor the medical needs of prisoners and arrange an appropriate level of medical assistance as required. Assist senior staff with issues impacting on the overall operational management of the Watchhouse.Role RequirementsMandatory Possession of an Open C Class Drivers Licence.Other This position requires wearing an Assistant Watchhouse Officer uniform and adherence to the QPS Code of Dress and Appearance.
