We also offer relocation support.(Associate) Banking And Finance Lawyer (German Speaker Preferred)The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Legal Directorate (JU) - Legal Department, EU Operations - (OPS-EU) – Northern Europe Division (NE) at its headquarters in Luxembourg an:This is a full-time temporary position at grade 4/5The term of this contract will be 1 year; as this is a temporary replacement assignment, no extension or conversion of the contract is foreseen.internal benchmark role (Associate) Officer Legal ServicesInterviews are foreseen for early January 2026.PurposeThe Northern Europe Division (NE) deals with the legal documentation and legal issues for projects in Northern Europe, i.e. in Austria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden and the EFTA countries. The Lawyer will assist the Head of Division and Head of Department, together with other legal advisers, in providing legal support to the operational directorates, carrying out work related to all tasks within the remit of the division.This position offers you the opportunity to contribute to EIB’s business in the Division’s countries of operations. You would gain experience with different types of EIB lending products, build skills in negotiating with internal and external clients and celebrate your success as part of a highly motivated and dynamic team that takes pride in what it does.Operating NetworkThe Lawyer (internally referred as (Associate) Officer Legal Services) will act under the general authority of the Head of Division, in cooperation with the other colleagues of the Division and in accordance with the priorities established by the Head of DivisionThe post may involve a certain amount of travel for negotiations and signatures of legal documentation and contracts.AccountabilitiesResponsibilitiesThe Lawyer will carry out work related to the Division's responsibilities and work independently on lending and financing operations. S/he will:Draft and negotiate legal documentation for lending and financing operations for:projects in the afore-mentioned countries, notably bilateral loans with banking counterparts, public entities and major corporatesproject finance operations, with the assistance from external legal counselsstructured finance operations, including securitisationsother forms of financing, including risk-sharing structures, on a funded and unfunded basis.This includes advising on structuring, drafting of documents, legal advisory support, conclusion of contracts, completion of all related legal formalities, and legal monitoring (including loan restructuring and other post-signature events).Manage contacts and negotiationsPrepare the terms of reference for external counsel and other consultants, liaise and supervise their work, whenever necessaryComplete the administrative formalities vis-à-vis clients which have a legal nature or have legal implicationsUndertake research and conduct legal studies on issues of law arising in connection with EIB's operations and in the context of developing new financial instruments/templatesDevelop and maintain relationships within EIB, its clients and external legal advisers, and represent EIB externallyQualificationsUniversity degree in law, minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor and preferably at Master level, and preferably qualified in German or Austrian law. Minimum 3 years of professional experience relevant for the job, preferably in the field of bank lending and/or project finance and/or capital markets and preferably acquired with a law firm of international repute or an in-house legal department. Knowledge of civil and commercial law of a jurisdiction relevant to the work of the Division would be an advantage.Significant experience in drafting and negotiating contractual documentation in English and/or German; experience in drafting and negotiating finance documents would be an advantage.Experience in structured finance and/or project finance/PPP transactions would be an advantageVery good knowledge of standard computer tools.Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.
