Job DescriptionAs the sole Cyber Security Engineer within our IT department’s Cyber Security Team, you’ll play a key role in strengthening AsureQuality’s security posture in our Windows environment. This role blends strong technical expertise with excellent relationship management skills, making you a trusted advisor across the business and a key partner to our external security providers. This is a full-time, permanent position, structured around an 80-hour, 9-day fortnight—giving you a regular extra day off.
Ideally, you’ll be based in our Burnside (Christchurch) or Mt Wellington (Auckland) office on a hybrid basis, with in-person collaboration one day per week to stay connected with the team. Key Responsibilities: Relationship management with vendors to gain briefings, then generate fitting solutions to problems that arise. Design, develop, and implement security solutions in collaboration with internal teams and external partners. Making sure to integrate security into infrastructure and application design. Contribute to and champion security architectures, frameworks, and policies. Conduct security assessments, arrange penetration testing, and perform forensic analysis of incidents.
Stay current with emerging threats, technologies, and best practices in cyber security. Maintain comprehensive documentation of security configurations and processes. Key Requirements: Prior experience in an IT Engineering role, plus ideally some exposure to working in cyber security or working closely with cyber experts. Strong understanding of network protocols, operating systems, and security technologies. Familiarity with security frameworks (e. g. NIST), vulnerability assessment tools, and incident response practices. Experience with public cloud environments, API security, MS Sentinel, Splunk, and Infrastructure as Code is advantageous. Proven ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
