Backend Engineer (Java/Python)

They spend their days collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data from a wide range of live sporting events. If you combine this real-time data with our 40-year-old archives, elite journalists, camera operators, copywriters, the latest in AI wizardry, and a host of 'behind the scenes' support staff, you've got all the ingredients to make it a magical experience!ResponsibilitiesDesign, build, and maintain core backend services for sport data pipelines.Own and evolve the platform’s backend infrastructure (Java/Python, AWS, Kubernetes).Drive architectural decisions and improve development workflows.Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to identify, shape, and deliver technical solutions.Help elevate the overall engineering culture through mentorship and code reviews. Required QualificationsProven experience building and maintaining scalable backend systems in Java or Python and willing to learn the other. Strong hands-on experience with Microservices, AWS, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as a code.Ability to work independently and take ownership of large technical areas.Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with distributed teams.Positive 'can-do' approach, eager to use AI to explore new and sometimes exotic technologies.Desired QualificationsWorking knowledge of .NET and ability to contribute to .NET-based backend components when needed.
