Grade: 5Location: Taif, Saudi ArabiaJob PurposeBAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

The Senior Technical Specialist – Avionics plays a crucial role in delivering technical expertise and support within the Aircraft Systems and Support function of TTSS. This role is responsible for overseeing the technical management of Avionic systems, and other support products, ensuring adherence to airworthiness standards and regulatory requirements.
The position involves providing specialist support, troubleshooting, and system analysis to enhance the operational effectiveness of the Typhoon aircraft fleet, ensuring that RSAF’s operational and maintenance objectives are met. Job AccountabilitiesTechnical Expertise and SupportProvide expert technical support for the operation and maintenance of Typhoon Avionic Systems and Support equipment, including AGE, powered vehicles, training rigs, test equipment, and special-to-type support equipment. Act as a subject matter expert (SME) in Avionic Systems, providing guidance and technical advice to the team, RSAF, and In-Kingdom Industrial Participation (IKIP) companies.
Resolve technical issues by analysing system failures, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions to enhance system reliability and performance. Technical Request ManagementReview, prioritise, and manage Technical Requests (TRs) related to Avionic Systems and Support Products through the TeamCenter Query resolution process. Ensure TRs are addressed within service level agreements (SLAs) and ensure compliance with airworthiness and regulatory standards. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including UK-based teams, to ensure technical issues are resolved in a timely and effective manner.
System Performance Monitoring & ReportingMonitor the performance of general systems and support equipment, identifying trends, potential failures, and areas for improvement. Prepare and submit regular technical reports, summarising TR activities, identifying system performance issues, and proposing solutions. Support data analysis efforts, identifying opportunities for process optimisation and improved operational effectiveness. Training & DevelopmentProvide on-the-job training, mentoring, and coaching to RSAF and Saudi National Technical Specialists, ensuring continuous improvement in technical capabilities. Develop and deliver specialised training programs on Avionic Systems and Support Products, ensuring RSAF personnel maintain high levels of proficiency. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement.
Maintain effective communication with RSAF, IKIP, the Typhoon Design Support Team, the Typhoon Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO), and the UK-based In-Service Support Team (ISST). Lead technical support for special projects and collaborate with other teams to ensure the integration of Avionic Systems into the broader operational framework. Compliance and Process Improvement. Ensure all activities comply with Continuing Airworthiness (CA) requirements, Approved Data requirements, and regulatory standards. Identify and implement process improvements to optimise technical operations, reduce downtime and enhance system performance.
Safety and Risk ManagementSupport the maintenance of the Safety Case for Avionics Systems, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards. Lead risk assessments, identify hazards, and implement risk mitigation strategies related to the operation and maintenance of general systems. RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATIONEssentialHave extensive aircraft maintenance experience supported by formal recorded workplace applied related training, including experience in a relevant (CA or maintenance-related) role. Have experience in a relevant management role.
Typhoon Avionics experience either as Technical Services Specialist OR Maintenance Lead (3rd signatory holder with Typhoon Q course) Able to describe or demonstrate a Practitioner level of knowledge of Continuing Airworthiness and the aircraft types managed and a Practitioner level of knowledge of the aircraft maintenance environment. Hold a recognised qualification to NVQ3/ONC/OND/BTEC level in a relevant technical discipline, or a technical apprenticeship, or suitable equivalent technical qualification acceptable to M&CA. ORPart 66 licensed (current or lapsed), or suitable equivalent technical license acceptable to M&CA.
The successful candidate, Saudi or Expatriate must obtain Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) membership at the appropriate level, prior to starting the new role or commencing employment in KSA. SCE membership must be maintained throughout their employment in this role. Strong knowledge of Typhoon aircraft systems, AGE, and associated support products, with experience in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance. Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. DesirableExperience in managing Technical Requests (TRs) and using systems such as TeamCenter for Request resolution.
Demonstrate sound oral and written two-way communication skills with the ability to be tactful, discreet and confident in dealing with people at all levels. Able to work on his own initiative to resolve complex technical issues. Broad aerospace and defence company / industry knowledge. Computer literate with a sound understanding of the Microsoft Office suite. NVQ5/BTEC/HND or Degree in a relevant technical discipline, acceptable to M&CA.
