The EiR RoleAs an EiR, you will join the Bio Studio program, which supports early-stage research projects in becoming independent start-up companies within three years. Our ambition is to launch five projects annually across human and planetary health, sourcing innovative research from principal investigators and universities worldwide. In this role, you will lead a groundbreaking project focused on the development and scaling of a platform for the chemical recycling of carbon and glass fibre composites.
This technology addresses critical challenges in decarbonization, waste reduction, and resource recovery, with the goal of transforming end-of-life composite materials into valuable, reusable inputs for high-performance industries. Your mission is to transform this research into a viable start-up within the three-year timeframe of the Bio Studio program. Working from our premises in Copenhagen, youâll play a central role in building and leading a dedicated team, establishing vital industry partnerships, cultivating a strong venture-ready culture, and collaborating closely with the Principal Investigator to ensure a solid scientific foundation with strong market potential.
This is a unique opportunity to drive innovation in the important field of Planetary Health while shaping a new company from the ground up. Main Responsibilities: Liaise with Principal Investigator (USA, remote). Manage project strategy development and business planning in close contact with the PI. Project execution through milestone planning and monitoring (agile workflow). Operational management through budgeting and monitoring (with help from BII Financial Controller). Engage with key stakeholders including the Scientific Advisory Board (Board will be created), industry partners/CROs, and potential investors. Establish and maintenance of industry partnerships. Creation and execution of fundraising strategy.
People management of the Project Team; ensuring team cohesion, high motivation, and morale. Chair of quarterly Project Board meetings. Building the ecosystem; participating in due diligence processes within BII and increasing awareness of BIIâs projects where required. Professional & Personal Qualifications We are looking for a visionary leader passionate about creating impactful companies and bringing science to life, especially within the materials and recycling industry to support Planetary Health.
Besides being a champion for new technologies in an emerging field, the ideal candidate brings solid business development, industry partnership experience, and people management experience alongside a strong network of relevant players. We imagine that you have the following key competencies: MBA in Business with a preferred undergraduate background or experience in the science sector (chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, or similar) and/or extensive industry/commercial experience (chemicals sector or materials recycling sector), or PhD/MSc level in a relevant field with extensive industry/commercial experience. 7-10 years of experience within the science sector (valued experience:
within chemical engineering or materials recycling sectors). Proven experience in founding or building (early-stage) startups and/or raising capital. Experience in establishing and maintaining industry partnerships; excellent stakeholder management skills. Experience with contract negotiation with external parties. Strong communication, storytelling, and presentation skills. Additional valued experience: Experience with scaling â ability to manage operations, logistics, and process optimisation for increasing material throughput. Previous work experience with either advanced recycling technologies or experience with decarbonisation and resource recovery.
