Job SummaryThe Construction Engineer (Bridge) serves as the company’s subject matter expert in all bridge and elevated highway related works throughout the project lifecycle. The role is responsible for ensuring that contractors deliver bridge structures that fully comply with approved designs, statutory requirements, and the client’s Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) policies that all bridge-related works comply with engineering standards, statutory requirements, and the company’s quality and safety policies.The Construction Engineer oversees design reviews, construction supervision, method statement approvals, beam-launching oversight, and structural inspections. The role ensures project quality, schedule targets, and cost controls are achieved, particularly during complex operations such as girder/beam launching over active and high traffic highway segments.Key ResponsibilitiesReview and assess bridge design proposals prepared by consultants to ensure compliance with project specifications, relevant standards, and constructability requirements.Monitor and evaluate construction works carried out by contractors, ensuring adherence to approved designs, quality standards, and safety protocols.Provide technical input during design development, value engineering, and construction planning to optimize project outcomes.Conduct periodic site inspections and audits to verify structural integrity, workmanship, and compliance with design intent.Review and endorse contractors’ method statements, lifting plans, temporary works designs, and risk assessments for beam/girder launching operations.Monitor beam-launching operations on-site to ensure safe execution, adequate protective measures, and minimal disruption to live traffic.Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, consultants, and contractors to resolve technical issues encountered during design or construction phases.Communicate bridge-related technical issues clearly to senior management and provide recommendations for decision-making.Review and endorse technical reports, drawings, specifications, and method statements related to bridge works.Support project management in risk assessments, cost evaluations, and progress reviews related to bridge engineering activities.Ensure all bridge-related activities comply with the Company’s Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) policies and relevant regulatory requirements.QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; a Master’s Degree in Structural or Bridge Engineering is an advantage.Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in bridge design and elevated highway construction supervision.Proven experience reviewing consultant designs and supervising contractor works for elevated highway or civil infrastructure projects.Key CompetenciesStrong foundation in structural engineering principles, load paths, materials behaviour, and bridge typologies (precast, cast-in-place, steel, segmental).Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in beam launching operations, including load assessments, lifting equipment, sequencing, and traffic-impact minimization.Sound knowledge to review and interpret drawings, specifications, calculations, BIM models, temporary works, and ensure compliance with standardsExcellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.High attention to detail, quality, and compliance.Ability to work independently and provide guidance across project teams.
