Who we are: The British Embassy, based in The Hague, is part of a worldwide network of 230 Diplomatic Posts, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are looking for two interns to support the high performing Department for Business & Trade (DBT) team. DBT supports both UK companies to trade internationally, and foreign companies looking to establish or expand operations in the UK, through the provision of tailored information and guidance. Based in The Hague, DBT Netherlands helps Dutch companies invest in the UK and British companies export to the Netherlands.
The internship offers a great opportunity for a talented and highly motivated individual to gain insight into government engagement with the international business environment, with direct exposure to the workings of an important bilateral Embassy. Working together with a team of experienced Trade & Investment advisers, the role offers the opportunity to make a real impact. One intern will support DBT’s Trade Team with market research projects, event management and handling export related enquiries from UK companies.
The other intern will support the DBT Investment team with account management and event organisation activities aimed at prospective Dutch investors in the UK. Main purpose of job: Trade Intern: You will support the team’s Business Development Officer addressing and answering incoming trade enquiries from UK companies across a variety of sectors. You will support senior colleagues in the Trade team gathering market information; conducting research for market update briefings, reports and presentations, and supporting on project and event work.
You will support colleagues with preparing and hosting business events (such as trade shows or trade missions) at the Embassy or at external locations. Investment Intern: You will be supporting senior colleagues in the Investment team with the organisation of events; identifying stakeholders in the Dutch market and taking responsibility for the logistics of events. You will support senior colleagues with account management activities, updating databases and information assets. Currently undertaking studies in a higher education institution (HBO/University) based in the Netherlands to at least December 2025. To have the right to work and live in The Netherlands.
