Design Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity within our Customer Engineering Department as a Network & Asset Engineer. This role will oversee upgrade projects and design work for Calor's metered distribution networks and other existing assets, ensuring system optimization, regulatory compliance, and engineering excellence in safety, efficiency, and reliability.

Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Development Design and upgrade assets within Calor's metered distribution network and other existing company assets as required Ensure technical compliance with industry regulations, codes, and standards Develop and maintain engineering specifications, procedures, and technical documentation Complete relevant signoffs Collaborate with external consultants as required for complex design solutionsSystem Optimisation & Risk ManagementIdentify and implement process optimisation initiatives to enhance system efficiencyConduct system analysis and feasibility studies for improvements and expansionsAssess and mitigate risks associated with metered distribution assetsDevelop and implement safe systems of work to improve operational safety, ensuring compliance with industry best practices and regulationsMaintenance Strategy & TroubleshootingDevelop and oversee long-term maintenance strategies to enhance system reliabilityEstablish and oversee maintenance schedules for metered distribution networksTroubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to system performanceProvide in-field technical support to Area Technical Supervisors and contractorsProject ManagementPlan, execute, and oversee upgrade projects on existing sites within the metered network and other company assets as requiredWork with internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time and within budgetOversee installations, modifications, and infrastructure enhancementsProfitability Assessments & Financial OptimizationConduct profitability assessments for existing assets and evaluate investment requirements for new projects and upgradesOptimise asset performance to maximize cost efficiency and profitabilityAssist in budgeting, cost estimation, and return-on-investment analysis for engineering initiativesDecommissioning & Asset ManagementDevelop and implement decommissioning strategies for outdated or redundant infrastructureEnsure safe and compliant removal of assets from serviceManage the lifecycle of engineering assets to enhance long-term sustainabilityRegulatory Compliance & SafetyStay informed of changes to engineering regulations and industry best practicesEnsure compliance with all relevant safety and quality standardsDevelop and implement engineering procedures to maintain operational integrityEmergency Response & SupportAct as a technical lead in response to system failures or emergenciesDiagnose issues and implement corrective actions to restore operationsKey Behaviours & CompetenciesCustomer Focus & TeamworkBuild and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholdersCollaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve operational excellenceProvide mentoring and training to technical teams where necessaryInnovation & Continuous ImprovementDrive innovation and identify opportunities for technological advancementsDevelop and refine engineering processes for improved efficiency and reliabilityProblem-Solving & Decision MakingDemonstrate strong analytical skills to diagnose complex engineering challengesMake data-driven decisions to improve system performance and reliabilityLeadership & AccountabilityTake ownership of engineering projects and drive successful outcomesEnsure all work aligns with business objectives and regulatory standardsRequirementsQualifications & ExperienceBachelor's degree in an engineering related field, or equivalent.

Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience, preferably within gas distribution or energy sectorsKnowledge of process safety, distribution networks or related infrastructure, preferrableStrong track record of managing engineering projects from conception to completionExperience working within a highly regulated safety frameworkTechnical & Soft SkillsUnderstanding of engineering principlesAbility to analyse technical systems for optimisation and troubleshootingProblem-solving skills with a proactive approachStrong communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts clearlyProficiency in engineering design software and industry-standard toolsAbility to collaborate effectively with engineers, contractors, and customer-facing teamsStrong organisational and project management skills
