880 Productions is looking for an experienced CG Supervisor fluent in Unreal Engine to work closely with our leadership team and supervise the execution of the next generation of virtual production pipelines. You will join our world-building creative teams – across our New Zealand and Los Angeles locations – to technically deliver stunning cinematic scenes within an Unreal pipeline. This is a technical leadership role creating ground‑breaking visual experiences. You will be directly responsible for driving the successful technical delivery of the work across multiple departments to achieve the creative vision.ResponsibilitiesBring deep, hands-on Unreal Engine expertise to lead the technical direction of Unreal workflows, guide artists, troubleshoot issues, and establish best practices.Lead the technical aspects of Unreal Engine production, working within the established pipeline to ensure high-quality, consistent, cinematic results.Support, mentor, and technically guide Unreal artists and real-time specialists across departments.Contribute to the studio’s Unreal Engine transition by helping shape workflows, standards, and real-time processes, identifying efficient technical approaches and improvements.Collaborate with creative, production, and technical leadership across the studio to ensure cohesive, cross-departmental workflows.Provide on-set virtual production support as needed, offering technical and creative guidance to maintain performance, visual fidelity, and efficient real-time workflows.Partner with technology and pipeline teams to ensure efficient rendering, workflows, and data management, raising issues early and helping drive toolset improvements.Identify and resolve pipeline or tool issues early, contributing to testing, technical validation, and smooth production workflows.About YouProven experience delivering high-end, production-quality work in Unreal Engine, ideally across multiple shows, major sequences, or creative commercial projects.Experience maintaining technical pipelines and working within real-time or hybrid workflows in previs, postvis, real-time cinematics, animation, VFX, or game-cinematic pipelines.Strong understanding of cross-department CG workflows (animation, environments, lighting, FX, rendering) and how they integrate with real-time production.Hands-on Unreal Engine technical leadership, including optimisation, profiling, debugging, and establishing best-practice workflows for artists and technical teams.7+ years’ experience in VFX, animation, gaming, or related disciplines, with demonstrated senior-level or supervisory responsibility.Proven ability to collaborate with and lead mixed-seniority teams, fostering clear communication and effective decision-making.Understanding of editorial and onset workflows.Passion for emerging technology, real-time filmmaking, and pushing creative boundaries.Experience in Unreal Engine blueprinting, and the ability to write code and contribute to tooling and pipeline R&D (Python experience preferred).Understanding of Unreal Engine performance constraints and the ability to guide teams in creating scalable, efficient, real-time content.Experience integrating Unreal Engine into hybrid pipelines, bridging real-time and traditional CG/VFX workflows.The role will be based on-site in Wellington, NZ. You will be engaged as an independent contractor (based on 50 hours per week).
