Guernsey’s Committee for Economic Development is looking for up to two people to join the Committee as non-voting members. RoleCommittees of the States can elect non-voting members to sit alongside States Members. They can participate fully in the work of the Committee, but do not have a vote. The role of non-voting members is varied but includes:
Offering subject expertise not readily available within the CommitteeChallenging constructivelyAdding value to the decision-making and governance processesOffering independent advice and broader perspectivesLike States Members, non-voting members must act in the best interests of the community and provide a sufficient level of scrutiny to policies as they are developed. The Committee for Economic Development’s mandate includes the promotion and development of all sectors of business, the reputation of the island as a centre for commerce and industry, air and sea links, broadcasting and the media and safeguarding living marine resources.
The time commitment varies but includes as a minimum attending half-day, fortnightly Committee meetings, any extraordinary Committee meetings as scheduled, reading and preparing for Committee meetings – packs for which can be over 100 pages – and ad-hoc activities such as attending States Members presentations and possibly leading on specific areas of the Committee’s mandate. Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Miller, President of the Committee for Economic Development, said: “The Committee for Economic Development is keen to seek out skills and experience in the community to complement the elected membership.
The Committee is particularly keen to hear from applicants with experience outside of the finance sector and in the areas of its mandate including inward investment, skills, connectivity, competition, digital, innovation, energy regulation, and economics. ”The deadline for applications is 5pm on Wednesday 13th August 2025, although the Committee maintains the right to extend the deadline.
