Chief Financial Officer (CFO) – Pazh Powertrain Inc.About Pazh PowertrainPazh Powertrain Inc. is a Calgary-based clean-tech company developing hydrogen-powered propulsion systems for hard-to-abate sectors such as aviation. Our mission is to accelerate the energy transition through innovative hydrogen-electric and hydrogen-ICE retrofit technologies.Position OverviewThe Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for building and managing Pazh’s financial infrastructure. This role requires a strategic finance leader who can balance innovation-stage budgeting with scalable corporate finance planning — aligning R&D progress, non-dilutive and dilutive funding, and private investment opportunities toward commercialization.Key Responsibilities1. Financial Strategy & PlanningDevelop and execute financial strategies supporting company growth, R&D, and commercialization goals.Build financial models and multi-phase budgets for our pilot projects.Oversee cash flow planning, cost management, and financial forecasting.2. Funding & Investor RelationsLead non-dilutive funding activities.Support preparation of grant applications, budgets, and post-funding reporting.Engage with investors, government partners, and financial institutions to secure and manage funding pipelines.Maintain transparent communication with investors, the CEO, and the Board on financial performance and funding strategy.3. Accounting & ComplianceEstablish and manage internal accounting systems in compliance with Canadian GAAP or IFRS.Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting.Implement robust financial controls and cost-tracking frameworks.4. Risk ManagementIdentify and mitigate financial and operational risks across R&D and project execution.Manage insurance coverage, contract liabilities, and cost-share obligations for funded projects.5. Strategic LeadershipAdvise the CEO on financial implications of R&D, supply chain, and partnership decisions.Provide leadership on corporate structure, cap table management, and future investment rounds.Support long-term strategy for scaling operations across Africa, and Europe.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or Law (MBA, CPA, CFA, or JD preferred).Progressive experience in corporate finance, venture-backed startups, or clean-tech ventures.Proven success in fundraising and managing government grants or cost-shared R&D programs.Strong understanding of financial modeling, budgeting, and project-based accounting.Familiarity with clean-energy technologies, manufacturing, or engineering-intensive projects is an asset.Working knowledge of corporate and contract law, particularly in startup or R&D environments.Personal AttributesEntrepreneurial and mission-driven mindset aligned with clean-tech innovation.Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.Highly analytical, organized, and adaptive to a fast-moving startup environment.Location & CommitmentBased in Calgary, Alberta (hybrid work model available).Reports directly to the Founder & CEO.May involve occasional travel for funding, partnerships, or project site visits.
