Job detailsThe AER has a temporary vacancy for an AER General Manager – Information Services, Chief Information Officer (CIO) position.6 months + 6 months Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, CanberraIts not remote role Hybrid Need Candidate with Active NV1 Security ClearedThe CIO performs a critical role in providing vision and strategic leadership to enable the technological transformational changes that are impacting our business.Key duties and responsibilitiesAs the interim CIO, the person will have a record of achievement in delivering contemporary technology and data solutions in a diverse and everchanging environment. They will be a high performing executive who can lead a complex work program and contribute to the leadership of the department through active involvement in executive decision-making and work collaboratively to provide strategic direction and drive a culture of high performance. During the period of the engagement, they will make a substantial contribution to the delivery of key government priorities and engage with a broad range of stakeholders in delivering policies and programs that can achieve a positive future for Australian energy customers.As the interim CIO, the person will:Oversee and manage the AER’s IT & Data Governance (ITDG) Branch including the direct supervision of Executive Directors and Directors, and the associated staffing and contractor/consultancy budget. This work is likely to include the consideration of, and building towards, a future operating model with appropriate skills and capabilities across the BranchThis future operation model is currently under active consideration, using the expertise of a contracted firm.Manage delivery of digital services, solutions, budgets and operational responses (including ensuring that appropriate governance and testing arrangements are in place for all relevant ICT initiatives), in accordance with the needs of diverse stakeholders.Develop, review and present a range of clear and concise written material for a wide audience including correspondence, briefings, guidelines, advices, submissions on ICT and digital information, and Board and governance committee papers.Building and maintaining constructive working relationships and managing expectations of Senior Responsible Officers (SROs), staff, AER Board members, senior managers, external advisors, and other stakeholders to achieve the AER’s purpose, vision and objectives. A key part of this role will be to provide transparent information regarding scope, delivery and budget and to work collaboratively with SROs in relation to this.Contribute to the achievement of the AER’s roles and functions as part of the AER’s executive team.Collaborate closely and build robust partnerships with shared services partners, such as the ACCC and the Department of Finance.Essential criteriaAll candidates are expected to meet the APS Integrated Leadership Profile (ILS) for the SES Band 1 level. Ideal candidates are forward-thinking professionals with hands-on business experience and a wide range of technology and project delivery expertise. Their career journey should reflect a strategic perspective, demonstrating a capacity to navigate complex challenges and drive innovation coupled with a strong delivery skill set. A key attribute is a willingness to propel the AER into new realms of thinking, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technological advancement.This role in particular requires:High-level strategic approach, with proven experience in managing a complex portfolio of internal technology systems and projects to ensure the services are delivered in the most effective, efficient and contemporary way.Demonstrated experience in data strategy leadership roles that have provided broad experience in data management, governance, programming, reporting and analytical services to an organisation.Proven expertise and solid experience with data technologies.Highly developed communication and relationship building skills with an ability to present and influence to a high level, including to senior managers and CEO/ board members.Experience in managing multiple, diverse, geographically dispersed teams, and ability to coordinate multiple priorities to achieve results (often within short timeframes).Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or a minimum of 5 years’ experience in senior ICT, digital government or service delivery roles are preferred.Minimum NV1 security clearance.We are offering Joining Bonus $1000 and Refrreal of $1000
