Job Description

The Communications Assistant will support the effective implementation of the outreach, awareness and visibility strategy for the Great Green Wall project in Mali, by contributing to content development, event coordination, media engagement, and performance reporting. The role aims to enhance public awareness, stakeholder engagement, and the overall visibility of the project at the country level. Duties and responsibilitiesSupport the implementation of the outreach and visibility strategy for the Great Green Wall project in Mali, to strengthen public awareness and stakeholder engagement at the country level.

Support the production of outreach and visibility content for the Great Green Wall project in Mali, including blogs, articles, videos, photos, social media posts, newsletters and publications, to raise awareness on project progress and impact to diverse audiences. Assist in the development and execution of outreach and visibility event plans to ensure effective stakeholder participation, enhanced awareness and project visibility for the Great Green Wall project in Mali.

Coordinate media engagement logistics, such as drafting media invitations and maintaining a database of targeted journalists and media outlets in Mali, to increase media coverage, awareness and visibility of the Great Green Wall project in Mali. Contribute to the production of analytical reports on the performance of outreach, awareness and visibility activities for the Great Green Wall project in Mali to inform ongoing communication planning and decision-making. Undertake other activities as agreed upon to support the overall outreach, awareness and visibility objectives of the Mali country office.

Other ResponsibilitiesIdentify and mitigate potential risks within your work areaTake reasonable care of own occupational health and safety, as well as those of others as obliged by CIFOR-ICRAF’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy. Cooperate with CIFOR-ICRAF in complying with requirements under any statutory health and safety provisions of relevant Country laws. Participate in project activities as may be required. RequirementsMinimum qualification of bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or a related field. Excellent English and French language skills (both verbal and written). A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in the implementation of communication strategies.

A minimum of 2 years full-time experience in journalism, writing, editing and content creation (blogs, videos and photos). Proven ability to effectively undertake communication activities. Must be able to multitask and work well under pressure. Excellent understanding of different communication formats and channels, as well as strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media. Background and understanding of environment, climate, forestry or related subject areas and science communication. Education, knowledge and experienceMinimum qualification of bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or a related field. Excellent English and French language skills (both verbal and written).

CIFOR-ICRAF offers competitive remuneration in local currency commensurate with skills and experience. The initial appointment will be for two (2) years, with a six-month probationary period, with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of the position and available resources. The duty station will be in Kayes/Nioro/Bamako- Mali CIFOR-ICRAF Offices.
