“Nurture the garden and your career – Horticulturist wanted at the Honolulu Botanical Gardens”The Department of Parks and Recreation is hiring a Horticulturist to plan, coordinate, and direct the curatorial and horticultural program for the Honolulu Botanical Gardens (HBG) encompassing approximately 25,000 plant accessions within Foster, Koko Crater, Lili‘uokalani, Ho‘omaluhia, and Wahiawa Botanical Gardens. Duties And Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited ToIdentifying projects and improvements, determining priorities, and developing standards for the development and maintenance of the plant collection with a priority on Foster and Lili‘uokalani Botanical Gardens.
Determining budget and requirements for labor, equipment, supplies, and resources and coordinating and submitting procurement requests. Planning, coordinating, directing, and supervising the Foster Garden Conservatory operations to include specialized displays of orchids, aroids, palms, and a broad range of tropical plant species and cultivars. Directing related budgeting, acquisition of plants and supplies, documentation and labeling, mapping, planting, and propagation of plant material, ensuring accuracy. Planning, coordinating, directing, supervising, and evaluating the work assignments of the Plant Propagator and other subordinate(s) in the Conservatory, nursery, and garden areas, providing training for subordinates as required.
Evaluating, developing, and implementing procedures to ensure proper care and maintenance of the nursery, ensuring documentation procedures are adhered to and plant inventories are accurate.
