A completed and active Arizona Paramedic certification is also acceptable.

A National Registry (NR) certification for EMT or Paramedic is acceptable, at time of hire but conversion to an Arizona Department of Health Services certification is expected by graduation of academy to remain in eligible status. Preference will be given to candidates that have an active Paramedic certification and provide proof at the time of application. Current CPAT : A current Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) is required for most general academy assignments. ÂAll selected candidates will begin at the Firefighter Trainee designation and must successfully complete the assigned academy (Glendale firefighter trainee academy or advanced academy's; Career Firefighter Transition, or Career Firefighter Bridge) to become a Glendale Firefighter. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as a commitment to serving others, are important. Career Firefighter Transition or Bridge Advanced Academy - only if selected and qualifiedÂCandidates who wish to be considered and qualify for the advanced academies must meet the additional listed criteria including but not limited to the below requirements.

Eligibility for each academy is determined by the Fire Department. Clearly document employment, experience, and upload required certifications relevant to training, education and follow directions as requested. ÂAdvanced Career Firefighter Transition and Bridge academy consideration requireSuccessfully completion of the current Firefighter Series testing process, department selection for a conditional offer and successful completion of conditional offer process resulting in eligibility for employment. Active Arizona State EMT or Paramedic certification at the time of application.

 Graduated from a qualified Arizona Fire Academy or training center; City Public Safety Training Center: Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale Regional, Mesa, Phoenix Fire Department Academy; or Temp APS joint fire training center. Certification at time of application. ÂRequired Work Schedule24 hours on and 48 hours off unless assigned to temporary 40-hour assignments. The schedule is continuous "rolling" schedule and includes holidays and weekends if your shift falls on these days. Working ConditionsRequire working in heavy traffic, in confined, cramped areas, at considerable heights, and under stressful situations, with exposure to extreme heat, adverse weather conditions, hazardous materials, and contagious diseases.
