This role is responsible for overseeing the business operations within the Department of Public Works including setting the strategic direction of the following Operating Divisions: Utility, Sanitation, and Airport.
This position will drive the business development of the department’s core business areas to deliver economic value to the City from each operational area as well as to support the growth and development of the City. Major Duties & ResponsibilitiesLead the development and implementation of business development plans for each operational area. Develop and recommend operational and capital budgets with division managers in alignment with City strategic direction and ensure that budgets are tracked and appropriately administered. Supervise, schedule and manage the performance of managers and supervisors.
Lead the development of short, medium and long-term capital and operational plans for each operational area. Identify business expansion opportunities that serve the CityAnalyze progress on strategic plans, annual priorities and capital projects; and implement necessary adjustments with area Managers to operations and maintenance programs. Respond to inquiries fro m the public, media or City Council related to operations and/or other items of relevance to the Public Works Department.
QualificationsBachelor of Business Administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience5 - 10 year progressive management experience in a Utility or Business environmentKey Knowledge, Technical Skills And AbilitiesStrong understanding of all regulatory frameworks, structures, reporting and practices. Knowledge of relevant federal and provincial regulatory acts and regulations. Knowledge of bylaws, policies and procedures specific to the City of Prince Albert. Knowledge of current OH&S standards and regulations. Ability to effectively use a variety of computer programs, including drafting, database, word processing , spreadsheet and presentation software.
