The Cleaning team ensures our offices and residential buildings are suitably clean and well prepared. Cleaning Supervisors are required to supervise a teams in order to ensure that consistent and high standards of cleaning are achieved and that the service meets the Service Level Agreements in place. Supervisors have personal contact with colleagues in the Directorate of Technology, Estates & Facilities, members of staff from the academic and support departments and Colleges, students and conference visitors.RoleIn this role, you will have personal contact with a wide range of colleagues and also students and conference visitors. You must be able to undertake moderate physical and manual handling activities, including moving furniture and carrying equipment. In addition, you must have relevant cleaning experience in a similar environment; good organisational and interpersonal skills and the ability and confidence to decide on cleaning priorities within an agreed framework.Good customer servce skills, a high degree of tact and diplomacy along with the ability to communicate effectively with, and motivate teams of staff are also essential.RequiredWhilst regular days and hours of work are specified, these roles also include working at weekends when required. In particular, during vacation periods and ‘clean-down’ periods, the workload can fluctuate. You will be expected to be flexible in the hours you work. You should be able to work additional hours from time to time. Shifts currently available are as listed below but not limited to:Part time (15 hours per week): 06:00-09:00 Monday to FridayPart-time (22 hours per week) 09:30-14:00 Monday to Wednesday and 09:30-13:45 Thursday and FridayWe are open to successful candidates working part-time in one of the above posts or full-time, working multiple posts.Skills, Experience & Qualification NeededCleaning experienceExperience of providing an excellent standard of customer serviceKnowledge of cleaning chemicals and safe methods of workingUnderstanding of Health & Safety issues in relation to manual handling and COSHHBasic IT skills to include E-mail, internet and Microsoft Word and/or Google docs Evidence of good interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with teams of colleagues and supervisors Ability to organise the work activity of a team and to allocate and delegate work appropriatelyEvidence of upholding our behaviours as detailed within the accompanying person specification.Interview date: Friday 5th December 2025For informal enquiries: please contact hr-enquiries@york.ac.uk
