We believe in creating a healthy, learning environment for our employees to flourish.MISSIONWe are seeking a Project Director to provide hands-on management of the Japan Project Management Team focussed on Design, Engineering and Construction of data centre projects in Japan. We deal with the buildings and infrastructure (M&E services) that support the IT, computing, network and voice services; this is not an IT-related role.Reporting to Japan’s Head of Development and Delivery, part of the Major Builds Delivery Team in Colt DCS, you will manage the resources and the workload of our Project Management Team, assigning & reviewing tasks, and identifying skill requirements.You will work in tandem with other teams including Development, Design, Commercial, Legal, Sales and Operations to facilitate multi-disciplinary programme management including budget management, scheduling, commercial guidance, customer interface, governance, reporting and administrative management to the Project Delivery Team in Japan, to deliver all the allocated projects in a professional manner, within the agreed scope, timescales and budget and in line with the requirements of the business to achieve 100% satisfaction through the entire project cycle from inception to completion.Your management and communication skills combined with technical expertise and years of experience in the mission-critical data centre industry will enable you to provide leadership and technical guidance and allow you to gain the confidence of Colt DCS’ colleagues, business partners and customers.OUTCOMESYour main activities as Project Director will be to:Supervise activity of the Project Management Team, balancing workload, tracking performance, achievement, skill development and administrative oversight.Provide advice and assistance to staff to maintain a high level of efficiency, motivation and professional performance. Ensure effective utilization of Colt resources and external consultant and vendor services.Formulate and implement a clear strategy for project delivery through all stages. Monitor the planning and delivery of multiple, diverse projects simultaneously, driving ownership and accountability for milestones, managing project dependencies and risks and ensuring each project team is well coordinated towards successful project delivery. Management of the on-site day to day safety and quality is paramount and importance to the roleReview and maintain schedules and budget tracking documents, compiling timely and accurate regular reporting detailing the progress on all projects in Japan for compliance with ours and/or customer requirements, collecting project KPIs, identifying challenges and assigning ownership, proposing and driving solutions ensuring delivery on time and on budget.Apply a commercial approach in all aspects of the work, collaborating with other Colt functions to ensure that the procurement of all items is conducted on the most cost-effective basis to drive reduction in costs, considering not just initial costs but total cost of ownership.Provide external-facing relationship management support with stakeholders including customers, end-users, consultants, contractors, suppliers etc. maintaining clear lines of communication, fair and transparent expectations and prompt, results-oriented resolution of any problems that arise.Manage the relevant project reporting strategy to identify and address risk to the business, working with the wider Delivery team to collaboratively guide the consistent application of professional practice standards.THE TEAMWe are at a critical turning point as we become an independently focused business and at the same time, supported with the strong backing and investment of Fidelity. We are expanding our footprint in Asia and Europe which enables us to invest and leverage our real estate and infrastructure to expand our current sites and open up new ones.You’ll be part of a dynamic, agile , forward thinking team of individuals that are looking to significantly grow the business.This is an exciting time and a new beginning for Colt DCS.THE SKILLS / EXPERTISE YOU BRINGA Bachelor's degree in any engineering or building construction related discipline / eligibility for professional accreditation plus 10 - 15 years of professional experience in Japan in data center or mission critical industry construction with a proven track record in managing a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team achieving project delivery.Strong design management, time management and organizational skills, with a proactive focus on problem solving. Excellent stakeholder / customer management skills with a commitment to transparency and integrity.Experience with scheduling, resource allocation, cost forecasting, change control, risk management processes, understanding of the technical, procedural, contractual and commercial aspects of project deliver and good knowledge of International best practice for health and safetyGood communication skills verbally and written in both Japanese and English. Capable of demonstrating support and empathy to motivate team members, being succinct at a Senior Management level, whilst inspiring confidence and trust.A solid understanding of data centre planning and delivery processes, familiarity with design consultant appointments, contracts and construction practices in Japan and the ability to work in a collaborative way across all engineering disciplines..You will stimulate a culture of teamwork and passion for continuous improvement, leading by example, to work with all other functions in a proactive and energetic way to promote the project management & delivery agenda. Must be able to demonstrate initiative and the ability to work accurately under pressure. Must be able to operate in an open management style and structure with an emphasis on team work within a global matrix.
