Consultant as Legal Assistant, Operations This is a hybrid position which requires 8 days per month in the office. You can be based in our office in WRI Indonesia, Jakarta. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission as WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position. Job HighlightThe Legal Assistant is expected to provide supporting role to the Contract and Legal Coordinator by providing assistance in the field of legal analysis, identifying innovative solutions to the Grants & Contract team, and maintaining organizational compliance to the prevailing regulations as well as contractual obligations of the WRI Indonesia office. Key responsibilities is to support in areas that require review through legal lens and maintaining protection of organizational interest in each legal document. This include (1) drafting, review, and drafting legal analysis on contract/agreement with the donor, subgrant, subcontractor, vendor, and partners and (2) giving input and legal support on organization across departments. Furthermore, the position is also responsible for overseeing compliance of the project implementation to ensure compliance with the agreement and donor requirement. In addition to the daily responsibilities, this position will also support G&C team in managing need-based legal assistant requests coming from within the organization. Considering the nature of work, this position is responsible to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and maturity.The Legal Assistant will report directly to Contract and Legal Coordinator and will receive close supervision in conducting daily activities to ensure organizational policies are taken account and to protect organizational interest. This position will be based in Jakarta with office-flex working arrangement and may be required to travel in as-need basis.In support of WRI's DEI commitment, you are responsible for actively participating in these collaborative efforts by integrating equity into your work, our workplace, and the organizational culture.What You Will DoLegal Drafting (40%)Provide initial legal document review and drafting for Line Manager: Draft, review, and/or revise selected types of legal documents—internal and external—to protect organizational interests, assist in the compliance with applicable national regulation and organizational policies, as well as legal and ethical integrity. The document includes, among others vendor agreements, partnership agreement and MoU, grant, sub-grant, and sub-contract agreements, consortium agreements, and a variety of letters.The specific documents to be handled will be determined based on a risk assessment conducted by Line Manager.Legal Template Development: Assist the Contract and Legal Coordinator in developing templates for legal documents—internal and external—on as-need basis by request from across the departments. The document templates may include specific agreement, statement letter, and internal memo.Support legal negotiation: Under supervision of Line Manager, provide assistance in advising and/or negotiating contract terms with counterpart when legal concern arises from the WRI Indonesia team or its counterpart—negotiation may be done through email correspondence, virtual meeting, and in-person meetings. Assistant’s role will focus on providing initial legal comments or input on negotiation notes in legal document, which will be subject to review and finalization by Line Manager.General Legal Advisory (30%)Support Line Manager in providing organizational legal input: Support Line Manager by conducting relevant research and analysis on a wide range of legal issues including general civil and contract law, organizational governance, and regulatory compliance, enhancing organizational decision-making and policy development.Regulatory Compliance Monitoring: Proactively monitor regulatory changes impacting the organization and escalate any findings to Line Manager ensuring all operational practices comply with new and existing legal frameworks.Grant and Subgrant Management Assistance (30%)Grant Obligation Checklist: Conduct thorough initial reviews of any assigned funding awards' terms and conditions, providing draft of legal framework analysis and input them in the grant compliance checklist for recommendation to Line Manager .Sub-Grantee Due Diligence: Act as a member of the selection and screening team, performing initial non-technical due diligence and risk assessment for new sub-grantee applicants particularly in reviewing the legal aspects of potential subgrantees and propose proper adjustment to the agreements to comply with the each respective grant agreement.Grant Compliance Checklist. Advise relevant WRI Indonesia staff on the administration of, and compliance with, the award. This shall be done by advising team member through filing grant compliance checklist for each grant.What You Will NeedBachelor’s degree in law.Minimum 2 (two) years of relevant work experience in managing an organization or corporate law.Experience in contract drafting and reviewing—specifically, vendor agreements, partnership agreements, and grant agreementsA good understanding of civil and corporate law , contract drafting, and keeping update with regulatory frameworks.Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with attention to detail in reviewing legal documents, negotiating contract terms, researching formats for specific legal documents, and integrating internal organizational policies to each relevant legal documents.Proficient in legal research and ability to interpret legal language into practical guidance.Strong writing and verbal skills for both technical and general audiences with basicexperience in presenting legal advice to audiences of non-legal backgroundsStrong team player with the ability to work across institutional departments/programs.Ability to manage professional relationships to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds.Highly organized and systematic with strong time management skills and ability to juggle competing prioritiesSkilled in Microsoft Office 365Demonstrate integrity, discretion, and commitment to confidentialityProfessional fluency in Bahasa Indonesia and English.Ability and willingness to travel.Legally able to work in Indonesia.Duration6 (six) months with possibility of extension subject to individual performance evaluation, organization’s need, and budget availability.DeliverablesAll assigned document e.g agreement, contract, and other legal documents are drafted or reviewed with clarity, legal accuracy and submitted in a timely manner.Legal templates are developed, well researched, and duly reviewed in timely mannerPre-consulted legal review and advise is disseminated accurately to relevant stakeholders within the agreed timeline. Initial legal advice are provided accurately for further decision-making or review process and the organization’s interest is protected. Actionable recommendations are provided for each identified risk, gap, or liability to support informed decision making and risk mitigationMaintain well-organized legal document, correspondence, and contract archives.Confidentiality of all sensitive legal and contractual information are 100% maintained.Regular monitoring and communicate changes on law and regulation relevant to the organization’s operations to Line Manager and/or other internal stakeholder, in support of team capacity building, knowledge sharing, and informed decision-making.Contractual obligations from grant agreements are duly noted and communicated to the relevant team, as well as reflected in each corresponding subgrant agreements.Terms of PaymentDaily rate-based consultant with a maximum of 20 (twenty) working days per month.How To ApplyPlease submit a resume with a cover letter by 26 November 2025.
