In this role, you'll collaborate with a diverse team of industry experts to craft comprehensive trail consulting and planning solutions, encompassing master plans, feasibility studies, destination audits, concept plans, and detailed designs. Role Overview:As a Trail Consultant, you'll wear multiple hats, blending project management expertise with hands-on fieldwork, design development, operational support, and adept stakeholder management. Your contributions will be integral to the success of projects spanning diverse outdoor environments, from iconic mountain bike trail destinations across Australia to emerging ventures in Europe. Core Responsibilities:· Shaping Trail Experiences Globally – Contribute to shaping the future of trail design, planning, construction, and riding experiences, influencing renowned trail destinations worldwide.· Report Writing - Contribute to the research, design and writing of all trail consulting/planning outputs, including trail audits, asset mapping, master plans, feasibility studies, concept plans and detailed designs.· Fieldwork - Undertake fieldwork associated with all trail consulting/planning outputs, including trail audits, asset mapping, master plans, feasibility studies, concept plans and detailed designs.· Engagement with clients – Engage with clients and potential clients professionally and efficiently across a range of forums and scenarios.· Engagement with broader community – Engage with broader community on project specific basis to achieve project outcomes. Engage professionally and efficiently across a range of forums and scenarios.· Project Management – Effectively manage trail consulting/planning projects from inception to completion, within scope, time and budget constraints.· Tender Writing - Assist with the preparation and writing of tenders and quotes.· Strategy – Contribute to strategic business plans to develop new opportunities and grow the business.· Networking – Network with industry professionals and organisations to identify new opportunities, including potentially representing World Trail at conferences, seminars or trade shows.· Project Tracking and Reporting – Track project status and provide ongoing updates as required through World Trail internal project tracking protocols.· Support - Provide operational support to other team members as required. Qualifications:A tertiary qualification or diploma in a relevant discipline is essential for this role. Preferred fields include engineering, science, natural resource management, landscape architecture, tourism, project management, or other relevant areas. Additionally, certifications or specialized training in trail design, environmental conservation, or outdoor recreation management would be advantageous, demonstrating a commitment to professional development and a deep understanding of the intricacies of trail consulting and planning. Key Selection Criteria:1. Highly Developed Written Communication Skills: The ability to deliver highly professional and polished written reports is paramount in this role. The preferred candidate will possess not only an excellent command of language and writing but also the proficiency to produce professional written outputs using a variety of standard industry and business software applications. Strong written communication skills are essential for effectively conveying complex concepts and ideas to stakeholders.2. Passion and Understanding of Mountain Biking Culture: A strong understanding and experience of the sport and culture of mountain biking are highly desirable. Given that World Trail's primary business revolves around designing and building mountain bike trails, the preferred candidate will have a deep passion for the sport, translating their personal interest into professional dedication. This intrinsic understanding of mountain biking culture will inform their work, ensuring that trail designs resonate with the needs and preferences of riders.3. Experience in Trail Development Processes: The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding and experience of the process of trail development or have worked in the trail industry. Trail development projects often navigate complex planning requirements, particularly on public land. The preferred candidate will demonstrate familiarity with these processes, understanding key stakeholders and potential risks and pitfalls. This expertise will facilitate the seamless execution of projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and community needs.4. Proficiency in Spatial Data Interpretation: World Trail's design outputs heavily rely on spatial data and mapping. Therefore, the ideal candidate will have experience with the use of GPS devices in the field and proficiency in processing and manipulating spatial data using GIS software packages. This capability enables the creation of accurate and comprehensive maps and other supporting outputs essential for effective trail planning and design.5. Experience in Competitive Tender Processes and Government Funding Protocols: In a competitive industry where government funding often drives projects, the preferred candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding and experience of competitive tender processes and government funding protocols. This includes expertise in preparing tenders from both the tenderer and tenderee's perspective and a sound knowledge of government funding processes. This proficiency ensures the successful navigation of procurement processes, securing project contracts and funding opportunities effectively.6. Project Management and Leadership Skills: The ability to project manage a team of multi-disciplinary consultants is crucial for ensuring the timely delivery of all project outputs and milestones. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential in orchestrating team efforts and coordinating project activities. The preferred candidate will demonstrate leadership qualities, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment while also exhibiting autonomy and initiative to work independently.7. Demonstrated Ability to Work Independently and as a Team Member/Leader: World Trail is a medium-sized company where teamwork and individual contributions play integral roles in achieving joint outcomes. The preferred candidate will demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as a member or leader of a team. They will contribute productively to team outputs while also displaying the self-discipline required to work effectively under minimal supervision and meet strict deadlines. Location: The position is based in either our Cairns, Queensland or Geelong, Victoria offices, offering flexibility to accommodate diverse candidate preferences.
