JOB PURPOSE:The Country Manager – Fintech (Bilingual: English & Portuguese) will be responsible for leading and overseeing all business operations, financial performance, and strategic market initiatives in São Tomé and Príncipe. This leadership role involves managing day-to-day operational efficiency, driving business growth, ensuring full regulatory compliance, and representing the company to key stakeholders including banks, telecom partners, and government agencies. The successful candidate will be pivotal in expanding access to digital financial services and promoting financial inclusion in the region.2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES● Technical/Operations duties1. Strategic Leadership• Develop and execute the company’s country strategy in alignment with its regional and global objectives.• Drive operational excellence, market growth, and brand visibility in São Tomé and Príncipe.• Identify new business opportunities, partnerships, and market trends to enhance competitive advantage.• Represent the organization in high-level meetings with regulators, financial institutions, and development agencies.• Provide strategic insight to senior management for policy formulation and long-term planning.2. Business Operations Management• Oversee all in-country operations including digital wallet services, agent networks, remittance channels, and payment processing platforms.• Manage the deployment and performance of digital payment systems, ensuring high service uptime and network reliability.• Ensure efficient liquidity management for agents and customers to maintain transaction continuity.• Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure smooth integration of financial services and customer support systems.• Monitor daily operations to ensure adherence to company policies, performance standards, and compliance requirements.3. Financial and Performance Management• Achieve country-level financial and operational targets, including revenue growth, transaction volume, and market share.• Prepare, manage, and oversee the country budget, ensuring optimal allocation of funds for operations, marketing, and expansion.• Conduct periodic financial and performance analyses, generating insights to improve efficiency and profitability.• Implement robust internal controls to ensure transparent financial reporting and minimize operational risks.4. Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management• Ensure full compliance with Central Bank of São Tomé and Príncipe regulations, including licensing, AML/KYC standards, and financial reporting obligations.• Develop and implement local risk management frameworks that address operational, financial, and regulatory risks.• Maintain close working relationships with regulatory authorities and ensure timely submission of compliance documentation.• Conduct internal audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented to maintain compliance integrity.4. Leadership and Team Development• Lead, motivate, and manage the country operations team, including functional leads in Operations, Business Development, Product, and Finance.• Recruit, train, and retain high-performing local talent.• Set clear performance goals, conduct periodic evaluations, and promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation.• Provide mentorship and leadership development to team members to build capacity for future growth.5. Market Development and Partnerships• Build and strengthen partnerships with banks, mobile network operators, fintech service providers, NGOs, and government bodies.• Design and oversee agent and merchant acquisition campaigns to expand the digital payment ecosystem across urban and rural areas.• Develop marketing and outreach strategies to enhance brand visibility and user adoption.• Represent the company at industry conferences, forums, and community engagements to promote digital inclusion.6. Product and Customer Experience• Collaborate with product teams to tailor fintech solutions that address local market needs and consumer behavior.• Oversee customer service operations to ensure timely issue resolution and a consistently positive user experience.• Gather market intelligence and user feedback to guide product innovation and service improvements.• Champion digital literacy initiatives to empower users and drive sustainable adoption of fintech services.1.
