About the Role | Mō te TūrangaThe Crown Operations Manager is a fixed-term role reporting to the Official Secretary at Government House, focused on strengthening financial, procurement, asset, and facilities management systems while building organisational capability and embedding efficient practices. The position requires strong leadership and expertise across financial, operational, and facilities management, with responsibility for driving process improvements, ensuring compliance with legislative and governance requirements, and laying a solid foundation for ongoing operational success beyond the term of the role.
Key Responsibilities | Ngā Haepapa MatuaIn this role, you will lead the following key areasOperational Efficiency and Systems Improvement Support operational delivery and workforce capability development across teams in Wellington and Auckland. Design and optimize systems and processes to ensure efficiency, sustainability, and compliance. Maintain business continuity and resilience through proactive planning and risk management. Heritage and Asset Stewardship Maintain and protect the heritage value of Government Houses in Wellington and Auckland. Ensure facilities meet health, safety, environmental, and sustainability standards. Governance and Compliance Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and procurement processes. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and accountability standards.
Monitor and report on system performance, identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies. Leadership and Team Development Contribute to the high-performing Government House team, fostering a culture of trust, collaboration, and innovation. About You | Mōu AnōTo be successful in this role you will bringSignificant experience in operational management, facilities management, process improvement, or systems leadership within the public sector or a related field. Proven experience in financial management, procurement, and operational planning, ideally within a public sector or complex organisational environment. Strong background in facilities and asset management, including compliance with heritage, health and safety, and sustainability requirements.
People leadership expertise, including the proven ability to empower, coach, and develop a team to build capability and deliver results. Highly developed analytical skills with the ability to identify and drive solutions for organisational challenges. Familiarity with Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and Crown-Māori relationships. High personal integrity, professional judgment, and the ability to operate under pressure.
