Job Title CSSD TechnicianJob SummaryThe CSSD Technician will be responsible for cleaning, sterilizing, assembling, and distributing surgical instruments and medical equipment used in the ICU and associated clinical areas. This role ensures that all instruments and equipment are processed in accordance with infection control standards and are available for timely clinical use. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of sterilization techniques, infection prevention, and hospital protocols, with the ability to maintain accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced healthcare environment.Job Level TechnicalReports to Nursing Manager / ICU Lead NurseDirect ReportsNoneKey ResponsibilitiesCollect, clean, disinfect, package, and sterilize surgical instruments, trays, and equipment.Operate and maintain sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, ultrasonic washers, and dryers.Inspect and assemble instrument sets according to established protocols.Ensure all sterilization records and logs are accurately maintained.Store and distribute sterile supplies to clinical areas as needed.Monitor stock levels and request replenishment of sterile supplies and consumables.Adhere strictly to infection prevention and control procedures to maintain a sterile environment.Report equipment faults or malfunctions promptly to the supervisor.Participate in regular quality assurance audits and process improvement initiatives.Support clinical teams with urgent instrument or equipment needs.Broad Key Performance IndicatorsCompliance with sterilization and infection control standards.Turnaround time for instrument reprocessing.Accuracy and completeness of sterilization records.Equipment functionality and minimal downtime.User satisfaction (nursing and surgical teams).Adherence to safety and quality assurance protocols. Competencies Required for the RoleQualifications & ExperienceCertificate or Diploma in Sterile Services Technology, Nursing, Biomedical Science, or related field.Minimum of 2 years’ experience in CSSD or hospital sterilization services.Knowledge of infection prevention, decontamination, and sterilization principles.Experience working in an ICU, operating theatre, or hospital setting is an advantage.Familiarity with modern sterilization equipment and hospital hygiene practices.Skills | Personal AttributesStrong attention to detail and commitment to safety standards.Good organizational and time management skills.Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.Excellent teamwork and communication skills.High level of integrity, reliability, and professionalism.Physically fit and able to handle sterilization equipment and materials safely.
