Job Description
Lincoln University is seeking a highly skilled and practically experienced Cyber Security Engineer to develop, manage, and deliver hands-on cybersecurity training and laboratory environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ethical hacking, penetration testing, virtualization (VMware), operating systems, and network defense.This individual will play a key role in setting up secure, real-world cybersecurity labs, conducting live demonstrations, mentoring students on practical exercises, and supporting cybersecurity projects across the university.Key Responsibilities:Design, configure, and manage a Cybersecurity Training Lab Environment (virtualized and physical).Conduct practical training sessions on ethical hacking, penetration testing, and network defense.Deploy and manage virtualized environments using VMware, VirtualBox, or similar tools for cybersecurity simulations.Perform vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and red/blue team exercises for educational and institutional use.Configure and secure operating systems (Windows, Linux, Kali, Ubuntu) for classroom and research environments.Demonstrate the use of offensive and defensive security tools (e.g., Metasploit, Nmap, Burp Suite, Wireshark, Nessus, Hydra).Provide mentorship and technical guidance to students working on cybersecurity projects and competitions (CTFs).Collaborate with ICT and academic teams to ensure cybersecurity best practices in university systems and labs.Maintain documentation, lab manuals, and system images for teaching and testing.Ensure all ethical hacking activities are conducted safely, legally, and within approved lab boundaries.Qualifications & Experience:Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Cyber Security, Computer Science, or Information Technology Minimum of 1–5 years of practical experience as a cybersecurity engineer, ethical hacker, or penetration tester.Proven hands-on skills in:Ethical hacking and penetration testing.Virtualization technologies (VMware, VirtualBox, Hyper-V).Operating system configuration and hardening.Network setup and security monitoring.Proficiency in using tools such as Metasploit, Nmap, Burp Suite, Wireshark, Kali Linux, Nessus, sqlmap, and Hydra.Experience building and maintaining cybersecurity labs or testing environments.Scripting or automation experience with Python, Bash, or PowerShell is an advantage.Key Competencies:Strong technical and analytical problem-solving ability.Hands-on, self-driven, and detail-oriented mindset.Ethical, disciplined, and security-conscious at all times.Excellent communication and teamwork skills.Passion for cybersecurity innovation and applied learning.
