Freelance Senior Cybersecurity & Data Science ExpertLocation: Remote within the EU (occasional on-site in Luxembourg or Brussels, 20 days/year)Role OverviewWe are seeking a senior professional with extensive experience in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Data Science, who can lead strategic projects that combine machine learning, AI, and digital forensics. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to operate in high-stakes environments for international public sector clients.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and deliver complex cybersecurity projects leveraging AI and machine learning.Identify and assess emerging threats and recommend proactive mitigations.Translate business and regulatory requirements into actionable technical solutions.Integrate new deliverables into existing incident detection and response infrastructures.Design and implement AI models for cybersecurity applications.Evaluate, benchmark, and optimize AI models for detection and defense.Build and maintain training and validation datasets.Define and implement architectures for data collection and reporting platforms.Collaborate with management and stakeholders to align cybersecurity strategies and present architecture designs.Experience & ExpertiseMinimum 20 years of experience in IT and Cybersecurity operations.Proven track record in Cybersecurity architecture and solution delivery within international or governmental environments.Strong background in Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR).Prior involvement with national or governmental CERTs.Experience contributing to open-source cybersecurity projects (e.g., MISP, IntelMQ, OpenTIDE).Expertise in data collection and visualization tools: Power BI, Jupyter Notebook, Pandas, Numpy.Strong Python programming skills, with a focus on data science and ML.Technical CompetenciesConfiguration and deployment of network security controls (firewalls, proxy, WAF, IDS/IPS, VPN).Knowledge of forensic acquisition tools and methodologies.Understanding of telecommunications cybersecurity and WAN security architecture.Familiarity with mobile device security and iOS forensic analysis.Experience implementing technical standards (e.g., IETF RFC).Proficiency in applying machine learning to cybersecurity analytics.Hands-on experience with Azure networking and security environments.Core CompetenciesStrong strategic thinking, communication, and stakeholder management skills.Ability to perform under pressure and in mission-critical environments.Capable of delivering presentations and conducting trainings or workshops.Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional technical teams.
