This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as Departmental Liaison Officer where you will have a direct involvement and difference in customer service. Provide critical administrative support that includes information management between the Department and ministerial office. The role is a fixed term temporary position until December 2026 with the possibility of extension.The Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (DLGWV) is at the forefront of driving sustainable growth across Queensland. With over 800 dedicated professionals across Brisbane and regional offices, we work tirelessly to ensure that Queensland's communities, businesses, and water resources thrive.The RoleAs the Departmental Liaison Officer, you will play a key liaison between the department and the ministerial office including managing the information flow, and to coordinate and prepare responses to often sensitive and complex issues. This involves managing high-volume inquiries (including mailboxes and correspondence) and providing strategic advice on policy and operations to ensure alignment with government objectives and ministerial needs.The role involves a high level of independence, flexibility and judgment in order to proactively resolve issues.Key Duties and AccountabilitiesFoster and develop effective communication and liaison between the ministerial office, the department and external stakeholdersProvide authoritative and timely advice supporting the efficient flow of information to and from the Minister's Office, ensuring timely and high-quality responses. This includes triaging and actioning high-volume mailboxes and prioritising inquiries and correspondencePosition the department to better understand the needs and expectations of the Minister's Office particularly with emerging and contentious issuesProactively resolve issues and improve business processesCoordinate and prepare accurate and timely responses to ministerial office requests for information including speeches, ministerial statements and briefs (including briefing materials for regional visits and deputations)Undertake research for the MinisterMaintain professional and effective working relationships within and between the Minister's Office and the department, other government agencies and stakeholdersSupervise and mentor an Assistant Departmental Liaison Officer and other officers within the Cabinet and Executive Services team, as required.Other duties as directed and required.Role requirementsThere are no mandatory requirements for this role, however government experience or previous experience in a similar role including in policy and media and communications roles, would be highly regardedDue to the nature of the role and the requirement to be available to the Minister's Office flexible work locations are not available however other forms of flexibility may be negotiated.Queensland Public Sector Inclusion and Diversity StrategyDLGWV is committed to respecting, protecting and promoting human rights in our decision-making and actions.
