Job Summary: Mechanical Inspector to oversee the inspection, assurance, and optimization of maintenance and overhaul work on large reciprocating gas engines and associated ancillary systems. Primarily focus on monitoring and assuring the quality of work performed by third-party vendors, ensuring compliance with engineering standards (company and international), and identifying opportunities to enhance performance and reliability. Key ResponsibilitiesPerform detailed inspections of large reciprocating gas engines and ancillary equipment (e. g. , turbochargers, coolers, lubrication systems, fuel systems) during planned maintenance, overhauls, and post-repair activities.
Act as the primary point of contact for assurance activities related to third-party maintenance contractors, ensuring work is executed in accordance with OEM specifications, regulatory standards, and site-specific procedures. Review and verify documentation, including work packs, quality records, inspection reports, and commissioning data to confirm accuracy and completeness. Provide technical input during work planning and execution phases to ensure optimal scope, methodology, and scheduling. Identify, track, and help resolve deviations or non-conformances observed during vendor activities, including root cause analysis and corrective action recommendations.
Collaborate closely with reliability, maintenance, and operations teams to drive improvements in engine maintenance and long-term performance. Analyze trends in inspection findings and failure modes to support predictive maintenance and long-term asset health strategies. Maintain comprehensive inspection records and contribute to asset integrity management systems. Participate in vendor evaluations, audits, and performance reviews as part of continuous improvement initiatives. Qualification, Experience & Skills: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 5-8 years’ experienceCertification: HNC/HND, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent professional certification (e. g.
API, ASME, or equivalentDemonstrable experience assuring or supervising work performed by third-party vendors, preferably in energy, oil & gas, or heavy industry sectors. Strong understanding of mechanical inspection techniques, tolerances, quality assurance procedures, and relevant industry standards. Familiarity with asset management systems (e. g. , SAP, Maximo) and inspection data management tools. Extensive hands-on experience with large reciprocating gas engines (e. g. MAN, Waukesha, Caterpillar, Jenbacher, or similar) in a maintenance, inspection, or engineering capacity.
