 The position of Development Chemist has arisen within our PC Technical team, based in Gqeberha. This position will report to the Development Manager. Preference will be granted to Employment Equity candidates. Purpose:The purpose of the position mainly includes product development and improvement of Kansai Plascon products (new and existing) as well as competitor evaluations for marketing. The position involves mainly paint making, product evaluations, raw material evaluations and panel preparation & testing. The major outcome is new and improved products for Kansai Plascon and information for marketing.  Key Performance Areas: Carry out raw material evaluations to identify alternatives and /or to reduce formulation cost. Ensures compliance with ISO 9001:2008 Quality and Environmental Codes of Practice 14001 Ensure health and safe working practices in the department. Review technical specifications, validation protocols, reports, and other quality documents. Develop new processes and methods to improve product efficiency and productivity. Maintain current awareness of competitive products and technologies. Calibrate/Verify and maintain lab equipment. Maintain high housekeeping standards (LPA, 5S, SHE) Identify risks as per OHSAS Act 18001. Compile technical reports for all projects on completion (as required) Create and amend Technical Data Sheets & Safety Data Sheet for new/existing products Create and amend PTMs and SOPs for new/existing lab equipment Ensure all project folders are documented and updated on intranet as per Development process flow (TTP-042N) Assist in customer complaints, field trials of developed and improved products Assist with project planning Actively participate in Team forum meetings Contribute with innovative ideas for continuous improvement process Coach new staff and in-service trainees. Conduct lab training on PTMs and SOPs  Skill, Knowledge and Experience Requirements: 3 to 5 years experience in a paint research and development environment Computer literacy Problem solving skills Analytical skills Good Communication and Presentation skills Report writing skills Educational Qualifications & Personal Attributes: Min BSc or SAPMA Modules (1-5) & min 10 years coatings laboratory experience If you meet these requirements and you are interested, please email your CV to Nevah Titus, HR Department to ntitus@kansaiplascon.co.za by no later than close of business on 5 November 2025 . Should you not be contacted within 6 weeks of submitting your CV, please consider your application as unsuccessful.
