General OverviewThe Director of Business Development is a strategic leader responsible for driving revenue growth by identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities. This role requires demonstrated success in the engineering consulting industry, deep relationships with municipal and authority clients within ARRO’s geographic footprint, and the ability to convert leads into signed contracts.Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Corporate Growth, with a dotted-line relationship to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director will collaborate cross-functionally to meet sales goals, build backlog, and position the firm for sustained success.Essential Job ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development Strategy & ExecutionIdentify and pursue new business opportunities through market research, lead generation, and strategic outreach.Analyze potential markets, client segments, and service offerings to uncover growth opportunities.Develop and implement comprehensive sales strategies that align with ARRO’s long-term goals.Client Relationship ManagementCultivate and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients, particularly municipalities and municipal authorities.Act as a trusted advisor to clients by understanding their needs and offering solutions that align with ARRO’s capabilities.Ensure high client satisfaction and leverage opportunities to cross-sell or upsell services.Sales & KPI Management Track, analyze, and report on performance using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), such as:Number of qualified leads generatedProposals submittedSales booked (signed contracts)Revenue impact (current year and backlog)Provide actionable insights to the Executive Leadership Team based on trends and performance.Proposal and Pursuit SupportCollaborate with technical teams to develop compelling, customized proposals.Guide the go/no-go process for project pursuits based on ROI, strategic alignment, and resource availability.Oversee timely submission of high-quality proposal materials.Market Visibility & BrandingIncrease ARRO’s market presence by representing the firm at industry conferences and networking events.Coordinate with marketing to ensure consistent and impactful communication across all platforms.Lead targeted outreach campaigns focused on priority service lines or geographies.Required Skills/KnowledgeBachelor’s degree in communications, business, marketing, or engineering is required.A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in business development, with a strong preference for candidates in the engineering consulting industry.Proven track record of closing complex sales and securing long-term clients.Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.Strategic mindset with analytical problem-solving ability.High emotional intelligence and team-oriented leadership style.Experience with CRM systems and data-driven sales tracking.Physical Requirements – Work EnvironmentAbility to sit or stand for extended periods.Occasional light physical activity, including walking, lifting, or operating a computer.Ability to work in various environments, including office and field settings.Required visual acuity for tasks such as data analysis and computer work.Must be able to participate in client meetings outside of normal working hours as needed.Daily Work Location/HoursPresence in an ARRO office required on an as-needed basis, with flexibility for remote work as necessary.
