The EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) plays a key role in driving increased energy market integration across Europe to bring secure, sustainable and affordable energy to Europeans. This helps EU competitiveness and energy security.ACER is an Agency of the European Union. The head of the Agency is called the Director.Now, we are seeking our next Director to head up and run ACER.In this role, you won’t just head up and manage an EU Agency and be its public face. You will shape the European energy system at a pivotal moment in its clean energy transition.Deadline to apply: 9 December 2025, 12.00 (noon CET)Your main tasks will include:Managing the Agency and its staff.Preparing and implementing the annual work programme and budget.Being ACER’s legal representative.Recruiting and supervising staff, fostering a motivated and high-performing team.Adopting ACER’s opinions, recommendations and decisions.Communicating with EU institutions, stakeholders and the public on ACER’s work.Overseeing internal governance, financial and operational structures.Ensuring sound budgetary management, control and reporting.Supporting ACER’s Administrative Board and cooperating closely with ACER’s Board of Regulators.Taking measures to ensure the smooth functioning and continuous improvement of the Agency.We’re looking for someone with:Strong leadership experience managing complex organisations, ideally in a European or national regulatory context.Proven ability to manage substantial budgets and internal control systems.A record of motivating, guiding and developing diverse, multicultural teams.Deep understanding of EU energy markets, regulation and policy, including market design and oversight.Insight into how EU institutions work and interact.Strategic vision to guide the Agency’s direction and adapt to a fast-evolving energy landscape.Excellent communication skills and the ability to represent ACER with clarity and credibility.Strong relationship-building abilities with a wide range of stakeholders.Integrity and a strong sense of responsibility.To apply, you must meet the conditions of the vacancy notice, including:You must be a national of one of the EU Member States.Education: Either a4-year university degree; or3-year university degree plus 1 year of appropriate professional experience Professional experience: 15 years of post-graduate professional experience, Knowledge of two of the EU official languages.
