By promoting excellence in project delivery, fostering knowledge sharing, and driving continuous improvement, the office contributes to sustainable infrastructure, transparent resource management, and a better quality of life for communities across the continent.About The Country/Multi-Country OfficeBased in Addis Ababa, the Horn of Africa Multi-Country Office (HAMCO) delivers project management, procurement, and infrastructure services across Djibouti, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Sudan, with a primary focus on health, agriculture, and economic development. Established in 2009, HAMCO partners with governments and development stakeholders to implement impactful, results-driven initiatives that contribute to sustainable development. Since 2024, new projects have been aimed at expanding access to healthcare, education, energy, and livelihoods, particularly in underserved and conflict-affected regions. HAMCO also provides human resource management services, supporting the effective implementation of development initiatives. Key efforts include equipping research facilities, strengthening education and health systems, building vaccine research capacity, and enhancing resilience in communities affected by crisis. Through these interventions, HAMCO contributes to inclusive growth, regional stability, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across the Horn of Africa.About The Project OfficeSince 2005, UNOPS has supported South Sudan’s development through critical infrastructure projects that improve access to essential services and livelihoods, particularly in rural and underserved areas. Efforts focus on the design, construction, and rehabilitation of roads, airstrips, ports, and bridges to enhance connectivity and promote economic activity. UNOPS also builds schools, health facilities, and government offices to strengthen basic service delivery and institutional capacity. In addition to infrastructure, UNOPS provides procurement and operational support to the Government and development partners, enabling efficient and transparent implementation of key initiatives. All efforts are geared toward improving socio-economic conditions, fostering resilience, and supporting long-term development across South Sudan.Job Specific ContextUNOPS Horn of Africa Multi Country Office (HAMCO) activities range from tailor-made administration, operations, human resources and logistics support for implementation of development and humanitarian projects, infrastructure and procurement management services; and advisory services on effective procurement, supply and financial management as well as project and programme management.The UNOPS South Sudan office helps a wide range of local and international partners improve the lives of the South Sudanese people by implementing infrastructure and procurement projects. All UNOPS operations have an increasing emphasis on developing national capacities and considering gender, environmental and community concerns. UNOPS is working in a range of sectors in South Sudan including: transport, education, health, post-conflict stabilization and emergency response.Under the guidance and supervision of the Administration Officer, the Driver will provide reliable and safe driving services to field team and visitors, ensuring highest standards of discretion and integrity, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. She/he has a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.Role PurposeThe Driver ensures the safe and reliable transportation of authorized personnel. The incumbent demonstrates professionalism, courtesy and discretion in performing their responsibility, including the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.Functions / Key Results ExpectedDriving ServicesProvide safe, reliable and timely transportation of authorized personnel and, where applicable, cargo or hazardous goods.Collect and deliver mail, documents and other items as required.Meet and assist assigned personnel at the airport, including facilitating immigration and customs formalities. Maintain accurate daily vehicle logs and provide input for maintenance plans and usage reports.Vehicle Maintenance and DocumentationPerform routine checks (e.g. oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc) and ensure vehicles are kept in good working condition.Carry out minor repairs and coordinate major repairs as needed.Keep assigned vehicles clean and roadworthy at all times.Ensure availability and safekeeping of all required documents and supplies, including insurance, registration, logs, maps, office directory, first aid kit, and spare parts.Accident ResponseTake immediate action in line with organizational rules and regulations in the event of an accident.Administrative and Facility SupportAssist Administrative or Support Services with procurement processes, including obtaining quotations for office supplies.Inspect, distribute and maintain inventory records of office supplies and equipment.Support facility management by arranging minor repairs, liaising with artisans and maintaining a roster of service providers.Monitor and support the maintenance of office equipment to ensure optimum performance, including timely follow-up on utility services.Respond promptly to repair and maintenance requests raised by authorized personnel.SkillsDefensive Driving, Professional Driving, Transportation, Inbound LogisticsCompetenciesTreats all individuals with respect; responds sensitively to differences and encourages others to do the same.
