Key AccountabilitiesRetrieve specimens from Specimen Processing and prepare them for accessioning;Opens, separates, numbers and arranges Histology & Cytology specimens for laboratory examination & processing;Sets up and operates laboratory equipment in preparation for processing specimens & for preparing & staining slides;Performs routine maintenance of laboratory equipment (daily/weekly/monthly) & documents the completion of each task on the appropriate form(s);Maintains confidential and accuracy of appropriate documents;Other duties as required/assigned;Skilled Knowledge RequirementsKnowledgeGraduate of a Laboratory Technician program or equivalent previous experience. Medical terminology an asset.

Experience working in Histology preferred;Technical SkillsPrevious experience with accessioning & processing Histology & Cytology specimens is an asset;Experience operating and maintaining laboratory equipment;Knowledge of Histology is an asset;Social Processing SkillsAbility to function in a fast-paced environment & take instruction from senior staff/ supervisor/ manager;Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a team environment is essential;Attention to detail is essential;Organizational skills are essential;Excellent communication skills;Experience in word processing preferred;Ability to work independently and within a group environment & be reliable/accountable for duties assigned;***Please refer to Article 2 and 7 of the Collective Agreement regarding temporary positions, job postings, promotions and transfers***
