Job Description

Do you want to be part of shaping the future of electrified propulsion systems — from electromagnetic design to complete EDU and transmission integration?ALTEN is now looking for an Electro Magnetic Design Engineer to join one of our major automotive clients in Gothenburg. In this role, you will contribute to the design, simulation, and optimization of next-generation electric drive units (EDU) — covering everything from motor electromagnetics to transmission durability, NVH, and efficiency. You will also work closely with system engineers to ensure the seamless integration of mechanical and electrical components within the complete drivetrain.About the roleAs an Electro Magnetic Design Engineer, you will work across the full spectrum of electric drive system development. Your focus will include electromagnetic design of electric machines as well as mechanical design and analysis of hybrid and EDU transmissions. You will develop, validate, and optimize designs that meet demanding performance, efficiency, and durability targets. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams — mechanical, electrical, control systems, and thermal engineers — including system engineers — to ensure seamless integration of electric machines and transmission systems into the complete drivetrain.Your profileYou are an analytical and driven engineer with a passion for electrified propulsion. You enjoy solving complex challenges, collaborating with others, and turning ideas into solutions, while handling multiple projects efficiently in a positive, solution-oriented team environmentWe see that you have:M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Electrical, Electromechanical, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.Minimum 3 years of experience in automotive powertrain development, ideally within e-machines or EDU/transmission systems.Experience with one or more of the following tools: ANSYS Maxwell, JMAG, Motor-CAD (electromagnetic simulations) and MASTA, CATIA (mechanical/transmission design)Solid understanding of electromagnetic theory, gear design, and mechanical durability/NVH analysis.Experience with product development, requirement management, and FMEA.Knowledge of thermal modeling, manufacturing processes, and motor-control interaction is meritorious.Fluent in English, both written and spoken.Main responsibilitiesPerform electromagnetic design and optimization of electric machines.Design and analyze hybrid and EDU transmission systems, including gear simulations for durability, NVH, and efficiency.Develop and validate electromagnetic and mechanical models to predict torque, losses, and thermal behavior.Lead FMEA sessions to identify and mitigate design risks.Define and document system and component requirements, ensuring alignment with quality, cost, and delivery targets.Conduct parametric and sensitivity analyses to support design decisions and material selection.Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to ensure technical alignment and manufacturability.Participate in prototype testing, correlate simulation results with physical measurements, and implement design improvements.Analyze and mitigate electromagnetic interference, NVH, and thermal challenges related to drive system design.Prepare and present technical reports, simulation results, and design recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.About ALTEN ALTEN is one of Europe’s largest engineering and IT consulting companies with over 57,000 employees in 30 countries.
