Administers basic and advanced patient care in the Emergency Department setting under the EMT-Paramedic Job Performance Standards, EMT-Paramedic Competency Skills, and approved EMT Paramedic Hospital Protocols. The EMT-Paramedic must demonstrate the ability and willingness to participate in a Patient Care Team as a multi-skilled caregiver responsible for quality of own work and remain flexible in response to change.Job Description:Principal Duties: Clinical Duties: The EMT-Paramedic may assist in the RN/MD in the delivery of care for the following measures: Intravenous cannulation of the peripheral vein in the arm Administration and monitoring of the IV The performance of CPR Point of care testing Cardiac monitoring and EKG’s Oxygen administration Splinting The reassessment of patients, data collection and medical records recording The performance of phlebotomy Spine immobilization Vital signs with orthostatics on appropriate patients Peakflow, pulse-ox readings Initiates and maintains IV fluids, including NS, D5W, LR, D51/2 NS Transport: May transport patients to med/surg, tele, ancillary departments forfurther diagnostic evaluation Can operate under general ACLS/PALS guidelines in absence of RN/MD Communication: Communicates in a professional way with patients, families and coworkers. Respects confidentiality. Documentation: Documents all care delivered accurately and appropriately on patient electronic medical record. Safety: Maintains universal precautions; identifies situations which place patients, self, and others at risk and takes appropriate measures to ensure safety. Department Support: Assist staff with routine tasks. Responds promptly to requests. Provides direct patient care to: Neonates (under 1 month) Pediatric (1 month to 12 years) Adolescent (12-17 years) Adult (18-64 years) Geriatric (over 65 years)Education/Experience: High School equivalent Graduate of an EMT-Paramedic Training from an AccreditedSchool by the MA Office of Emergency Medical Services. Minimum of 1 year experience, 3 years preferred as an EMT-ParamedicCertificate/License: Current EMT-Paramedic Certification, BLS, ACLS, PALSAs a health care organization, we have a responsibility to do everything in our power to care for and protect our patients, our colleagues and our communities.
