The Hotel Comptroller is a high-management position that is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, annual budgets, accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections and invoicing and also overseeing the annual audit performed by an external CPA firm. The Comptroller will oversee the hotel's financial success, serving as the strategic officer ultimately responsible of the financial performance.
ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management- Prepare financial statements, such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements- Review and supervise financial reports for publication- Ensure financial statements are accurate and comply with standardsFinancial Checks and Controls- Summarize, and interpret financial data to verify its accuracy. - Ensure integrity in financial reporting - Formulating policies and procedures - Maintain, and monitor the system of checks and controls that helps keep a company safe from financial fraud. - Control the cash management of business, such as petty cash, drop offs and cash deposits. - Follow up and resolve payment disputes and credit card chargebacks.
Budget Execution- Knowledgeable of the principles, procedures, and laws that guide the process of executing a budget. - Identify potential violations of the law- Accurately maintain the required accruals in the accounting system. - Supervise and report on the status of the accounts payable and accounts receivable of each managed business. - Record and submit payroll when due. - Process payments when needed.
- Follow up on all human relations questions and requests from the associates (staff) and resolve any issue that may ariseCompliance - Collaborate with auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies- Ensure compliance with financial laws and regulations- Oversee internal audits and assist with external audits- Keep all accounting records up to date and ensure that the books for a certain month are closed no later than the 15th day of the following month. - Record sales tax forms with the corresponding government entities and pay the due sales tax of each entity when due.
Advanced Financial Management Analysis - Evaluate the firm's financial performance and forecasting the financial future- Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities- Develop plans for the company's financial growth, analyzing credit, liquidity, price risk, and interest. - Guide investments, cost management, and financial strategy development- Analyze the performance of the businesses under management by identifying key performance indicators and determining if they are within acceptable rangesRequirements College degree in accounting/finance, CPA preferred. Licensed in Guyana. Previous experience, 3 to 5 years, within hospitality is preferrable.
Proficiency with current financial software, QuickBooks preferredQualificationsSkilled in numerical data analysis with the ability to formulate conclusions and solutions. Emotional Intelligence to act and make decisions through difficult situations. Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage multiple concurrent demands while prioritizing responsibilities.
