Job Description

About Zero GravityZero Gravity Oy is a Finnish deep-tech company. Zero Gravity Oy is developing a next-generation optical imaging payload for CubeSats.Under an ESA Funding, we are building a miniaturized optical imaging payload for CubeSat platforms. We are seeking an Electronics engineer to join our R&D team.Role OverviewYou’ll work on camera/sensor electronics, combining analog front-end design, power management and thermal control, always keeping the realities of CubeSat platforms in mind. You will be responsible for the electronics of the optical payload, helping us connect the optical sensor to the electronics. This role is ideal for a Master’s or PhD in Electronics/Electrical Engineering, Nanotechnology, Embedded Systems, or similar – with a passion for space hardware. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electronics design, electronics testing methods, circuit design and embedded systems.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and simulate analog front-end circuits for thermal imaging sensors (microbolometers, InGaAs, or similar).Electronics Design: Design and capture schematics for multi-layer PCBs for CubeSat imaging payloads, integrating MCUs, high-speed interfaces, power management, opto-electronic components, sensors, and analog/mixed-signal circuitry under strict CubeSat resource constraints.Prototyping & Testing: Develop detailed test plans, build and validate prototypes, and perform rigorous testing (functional, performance) to ensure designs meet all specifications and quality standards. Utilize advanced lab equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers) for debugging and characterization.Component Selection & Management: Evaluate, select, and qualify critical electronic componentsDesign and prototype sensor electronics (PCB layout, data interfaces, power control).Develop and operate a calibration bench for optical performance testing.Support integration of the electronics and thermal subsystems with the CubeSat bus.Develop PCB layouts for sensor power regulation, biasing, and signal conditioning.Implement temperature control systems (sensor heaters, thermal feedback loops, PID controllers).Model thermal behavior of electronics and optical components using simulation tools.Conduct bench-level testing: noise analysis, SNR, NEΔT stability, and temperature response.Support integration of electronics and thermal subsystems with the CubeSat busDocument test results, calibration data, and thermal performance reports.RequirementsMSc level or PhDin Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or Nanotechnology Engineering , Embedded Systems or Aerospace Engineering with focus on electronics.Prototyping and Validation: Hands-on experience with building and validating prototypes, using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and spectrum analyzers.Candidate has a previous experience in CubeSatsWork experience 1-5 years not a must. If you worked in University satellite laboratory it is also counted.Deep expertise in troubleshooting of electronics systemsBeing able to think independent, good problem solving and innovation skillsKnowledge of analog/digital circuit design, thermal sensors, or signal processing.PCB Design: KiCAD, Altium, or EAGLEThermal Simulation: COMSOL, ANSYS, or MATLABUnderstanding of sensor control, temperature stabilizationHands-on experience in laboratory instrumentation (oscilloscopes, power analyzers, DAQs) is a plus.Leadership: Proven ability to interact with international teams to execute multi-disciplinary projectsGood English communication and technical writing skills.Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to work effectivelyWhat You’ll GainWork on real CubeSat payload hardware with measurable performance goalsCollaboration with Aalto Small Satellite Lab and ESA technical partners.Growth opportunities and possible business trips within EU for the conferences. How to ApplyPlease send your CV, motivation letter, and university transcript to: careers@zerogravity.fiSubject line: “ESA Payload Project electronics engineer”
