Position SummaryThe Health Care Interpreter facilitates communication between patients with limited English proficiency (LEP) and the Care Clinic staff. This person is responsible for providing face-to-face and over-the-phone interpretation services between patients and providers, and occasionally works with other individuals, such as family members or patient representatives. In this position, you will provide cultural information to facilitate support for a treatment plan as well as produce written and/ or audio statements in languages other than English for unique listening and /or reading audiences.
The Health Care Interpreter provides professional services under stressful conditions and serves as a representative of the Care Clinic to patients, volunteers, community partners, and the public. The Health Care Interpreter performs other related job duties as assigned by their supervisor. The person in this role must demonstrate respect for the rights of all patients and provide respectful, considerate care tailored to each patient's individual needs and preferences. The person will provide a safe and confidential environment for patients, families, and personnel.

Medical interpretation of primary clinic, behavioral health, SBHC, and dental. Responsible for following up on patient care and maintaining positive communication experiences between providers, patients, and families. Demonstrates respect for the rights of all patients, tailoring care to their individual needs. Provide safe and confidential communication experiences for patients, families, and personnel. Ensures patient satisfaction by providing timely and accurate information when responding to inquiries. Provide documentation as requested regarding interpretation activities. Performs other related job duties as assigned by the Director of Clinical Operations or Chief Medical Officer.
Additional RequirementsAll jobs at the Care Clinic are impacted by various grants that are necessary for our sustainability. Serving in this role has direct responsibility for those grants and is vital to the success and continuation of those grants. This position is available Monday through Saturday. Complete all the required training as designated by HR and the position supervisor. Adhere to all organizational policies and those outlined in the ECH Employee Handbook. Comply with all ECH Vaccine Mandates. Willingness to travel and work at other ECH locations as determined by the supervisor.
Comply with all applicable Credentialing and Privileging requirements in a timely manner. Certified in medical interpretation or willingness to become certified within 6 months of hire. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Basic knowledge of digital systems (including Microsoft Office Suite) is required. Critical level of attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management. Ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish. Ability to be friendly and empathic regarding co-workers and patients. Ability to exercise independent judgment and be self-directed. Ability to reason objectively. Ability to document concisely, accurately, and in a timely manner. Ability to enlist the cooperation of others. Ability to work well in a high-stress environment.
Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Nice To HavesMedical terminology is preferred. At least 1 year of medical interpretation experience is preferred. Work EnvironmentThe work environment is in a healthcare setting and can be fast-paced, involving communication with patients and medical personnel. This role is highly clerical.
