In 2024-25, ECG began over 240 investigations, and obtained over $100 million in civil penalties and multiple criminal convictions and banning orders.Enforcement Inquiries and Compliance (EIC) teams handle early-stage misconduct investigations and decide whether cases advance to further investigation or seek administrative or compliance outcomes.Investigations teams manage complex cases through the entire investigation process, conduct related civil litigation, and support criminal prosecutions conducted by the Commonwealth DPP.Enforcement Lawyer positions are currently open in both Investigations and EIC teams. This recruitment will create a pool to fill current and future vacancies within ECG.The roles As an Enforcement Lawyer, you will contribute to investigations of suspected misconduct, conduct complex civil litigation and obtain enforcement outcomes. You will have the opportunity to participate in varied, interesting and impactful work. More specifically, you will: Case manage, scope, plan and conduct investigations within multi-disciplinary teams. Play a key role in conducting and supporting enforcement action including civil litigation, criminal prosecutions and/or administrative action. Identify and advise on legal issues arising in investigations and litigation, including evidence, remedies and the exercise of ASIC's statutory powers. Gather evidence through compulsory notices and examinations, interviews and search warrants, and prepare witness statements and affidavits. Use e-discovery software and other systems to interrogate, analyse and derive insights from high volumes of evidence and data. Experience in the conduct of civil or criminal litigation is necessary for lawyers in Investigations teams. Experience in industries regulated by ASIC including superannuation, insurance, credit, banking, wealth management/financial advisory or insolvency will be well regarded.About YouAs the ideal candidate you will be inquisitive, have an analytical mind set and be comfortable working with complex information in a changing environment. Experience supporting complex civil or criminal litigation matters in a private, regulatory or government setting (Investigations roles). Experience in industries regulated by ASIC including superannuation, insurance, credit, banking, wealth management/financial advisory or insolvency (EIC roles). Case/ project management and evidence gathering skills, and the ability to use e-discovery software. Familiarity with the laws administered by ASIC, such as the Corporations Act, the National Consumer Credit regime and the ASIC Act. Highly developed written and verbal communication and stakeholder management skills.
