With a healthy pipeline of future work, it is now an exciting time to join the McConnell Dowell Whanau at our Otaki to North Levin Project.About The ProjectThe Ōtaki to north of Levin (Ō2NL) highway will dramatically improve safety, resilience and efficiency, as well as increasing transport choices for the area’s growing population. The Ō2NL project is led in partnership with NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, Muaūpoko Tribal Authority, local hapū of Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga and council partner Horowhenua District Council.This transformative project is being delivered using a two-alliance approach, with each alliance delivering a section of the road and associated works. Together alliance partners are working to create a positive legacy for the region, led by our project principles to tread lightly with the whenua and create an enduring legacy. We are seeking excellent people for this unique opportunity to work and collaborate with leading industry organisations.About The RoleWe now have an opportunity for an Environmental Advisor to join McConnell Dowell (MCD) from January 2026, supporting our Alliance high-performing team, championing the environmental performance and regulatory requirements for the Alliance.The ideal candidate will be based in Wellington or Palmerston North and would be willing to travel or relocate to Ōtaki, Levin or nearby areas.Some Of The Key Tasks For This Role IncludeEnsure environmental works are carried out in accordance with the alliance standards.Promote environmentally safe working practices and culture.Coordinate accident/incident investigations and produce environmental bulletins and alerts.Report environmental performance to internal and external stakeholders when required.Attend and present environmental content at daily pre-start and weekly toolbox meetings, as required.Monitoring of environmental effects and the effectiveness of controls.About YouTertiary qualification in Environmental Science or related discipline.2 years + experience in the environmental field.Operational experience in the application of environmental principles in the construction industry (preferred)Thorough working knowledge of environmental legislation and/or associated regulations.Demonstrated practical understanding of resource consents and consent compliance processes.Don’t tick all the boxes but still keen?We know that great people come from all kinds of backgrounds.
