About The Environmental Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and standards across all construction activities, promote sustainable practices, and support the implementation of the company’s environmental management system (EMS). The Environmental Officer will play a key role in minimizing the environmental impact of operations and ensuring alignment with corporate and legal requirements.ResponsibilitiesPerform or oversee the day-to-day environmental compliance tasks and activities on the construction sites.Review construction plans and method statements for compliance with environmental issues, according to requirements of the contract documents and procedures.Report to management any unsafe conditions and/or work methods.Ensure material safety data sheets (SDS) for all hazardous materials are received, reviewed and distributed / posted, prior to the material being delivered on site.Verify records related to the handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of non-hazardous and hazardous waste, and used oil, are maintained in accordance with contract and procedural requirements.Audit, monitor and inspect activities for compliance, checking for potential environmental hazards and ensuring the effectiveness of the environmental measures.Investigate all environmental incidents and impacts, and any non-compliance including follow-up with appropriate parties to implement corrective actions in a timely manner.Notify the relevant authorities of accidents and incidents, as required.Record and maintain all of the above information and reporting these to management on a regular basis.Update the plan if and when necessary in the light of results obtained from audits, inspections, safe walks and accident statistics.Perform various assignments assigned by the Division HSSE Manager. QualificationsDiploma in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.Minimum 3 – 5 years of experience in environmental management in the construction industry.Knowledge of hazardous substances e.g., danger from flammable, explosive, electrical, noise, radiation and manual handling risks.Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.A good understanding of ISO 45001, ISO 14001 & ISO 9001.Strong knowledge of environmental laws and regulations in Bahrain.Excellent communication and report-writing skills.Analytical and problem-solving abilities.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and environmental monitoring tools.Ability to train and influence others on environmental matters. Preferred QualificationsISO 14001 Lead Auditor CertificationNEBOSH Environmental Management CertificateHAZWOPER or equivalent hazardous waste handling certificationFirst Aid and Fire Safety (as part of HSSE integration)
